Hello! Completely new to greenhouse(-ing?) here and am looking for advice on the placement of a new build around an existing barn. There are three zones to choose from but am wondering about the light levels/heat gain from each.

Location Info: SE USA, Latitude 30.5N, Hardiness Zone: 9a

Sketch attached: The barn faces north with the driveway and access doors on the same side. Potential site A is on the west with no existing shading; site B is on the south and had some fairly significant shading from existing trees just south of the site; and, site C is on the east which would not receive much light but wondering based on the average climate and solar exposure if a more shaded site might be preferred.

Planting goals: looking to plant some year round veggie crops, year round flower crops, and seedlings for transplanting in spring – interior layout pending until site is selected.

Any feedback and advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Site A (West, No Shade): Tons of light, great for sun-loving crops (tomatoes, zinnias), but summer heat is intense. Needs strong ventilation/shade cloth.

Site B (South, Tree Shade): Balanced light, cooler temps due to trees. Best for mixed crops if trees aren’t too dense; check winter shade. Top pick!

Site C (East, Low Light): Coolest, but least light. Good for shade-tolerant plants (lettuce, ferns), but sun-lovers and seedlings may struggle without grow lights.

Go with Site B if trees allow decent winter light. Prioritize ventilation for summer and maybe grow lights for seedlings. Good luck!
