It’s been growing for the past few months, looks like a weed. Is it a giant dandelion?

Its onion. That’s its flower. The green stems and roots are edible.

I’m not sure I’d actually eat it.

When they open, the little flowed on each stalk will attract all sorts of pollinators.

No, it’s a green onion/scallion. My friend grows these in his backyard. Just cut the flower off and you can use the stem for garnish and to enhance flavor for dishes.

That’s a onion, but it might be one of the Ornamental types.

Onion or other allium. If it’s not where you want it, it’s a weed.

Is it a plant you want right there? No? Then it’s a weed.

  9. The flower will produce seeds which you can plant for new onions

We call then shallots/spring onions, we we are , if u let it flower -like it is and seeds form , Collect them when they dry – and u will have a lot more 😊👍

Keep this one until it goes to seed – collect them / plant in an area or pot you planned for. And pull this one.
The flowers are cool AF and pollinators go ape shit for them. The individual flowers, within the flower ball, are themselves edible. They make a great vinaigrette

If you don’t pull it before it goes to seed, you will have too any everywhere!

How did an onion grow without it being planted?

  14. PhillyPhenom93

It’s only a weed if you don’t want it

A green onion. It will look like an alium in white instead of purple
