I mean, you could just cut off the tallest leaf? You don’t have to get rid of a perfectly good plant. Just cut the tallest leaves and let it grow again.

Plants can be pruned. In this case if you cut the stem of the tallest leaf and the plant will focus growth into the remaining leaves/grow new ones. It’s not necessary to get rid of this one just to get a new one and run into the same issue in a few years, but if you enjoy doing that feel free

  3. I’ve seen this before, the solution is far more simple than you’d think! Hole in the ceiling

“will trade for more manageable houseplant”

Sell it and get an orange bird of paradise instead. You have graduated.

Having the same problem with mine… we’re looking for a new, taller place to live lol

FWIW, I used to have an outside Bird when I lived in Florida and trimmed it out regularly (fast growing outdoors in that climate). It just kept sending up new growth. I get why you’d be hesitant to do this as your Bird is so incredibly aesthetic presently. Well done!

  9. I agree with pruning! You can get it to grow more bushy rather than tall!

get a bigger place. ours is the same. bought it when it was a foot tall. it was an “accent plant” yup, rivals the xmas tree

  13. There are two variants.

White grow up to 5m-10m tall.

Orange grow up to 1m-2m tall

I had the same problem. I had to get rid of mine. My apartment wasn’t big enough. This plant was sexy in my living room before it got too tall.

Cut a hole in the floor and then setup a floating platform on pulleys and maybe install a wench so you can lower the pot down as the plant continues to grow, really the only solution imo

Cut off the top leaf that hits the ceiling.

My elderly Mom had the same issue with a BoP that she was given. Her green thumb made that thing thrive and it was turning her living room into a jungle. She gave it away.

I had to get rid of mine. Not only did mine get really tall but it was pretty wide, probably because I didn’t have it in a tall pot.

You can try to trade it. You can get a pretty cool plant for a strelitzia this size.
