I always wondered if the fruits of this plant are edible. I’m not 100% sure what kind of plant it is, as I have grown it from a small twig I accidentally ripped off.

  1. Yes! This is the fruit of the Monstera Deliciosa. But be careful, the fruit is only edible when it is very ripe. Do not consume green. To know when it is ripe, just notice that it will have a very noticeable sweet odor and its “scales” will come off very easily. It tastes like Tutti-frutti

    Fucking hell, congrats OP!!

It’s honestly one of my plants parent dreams to keep a monstera so well that it eventually fruits. Where do you live out of interest? I’m in the UK, so not even sure if it’s possible for a monstera to fruit in our climate.

Yes, and they are delicious! Don’t eat it until the scales start peeling off on their own, and even then it’ll start ripening from the tip and gradually continue for a few days. Only eat the parts where the scales are falling off as it ripens.

I’m curious about the conditions you are growing in that allowed the plant to fruit. You either got very lucky or are doing something very well, it’s rare to see these fruit outside of their natural habitat. I have seen people get them to fruit outdoors in Florida with a lot of supplemental watering, but other than that the only time I’ve seen it was in Costa Rica where the environment was much more favorable.

I’d hazard a guess at saying this is why this variant is called Deliciosa… because it’s fruits are delicious!

🤯🤯🤯 I’ve only seen these once before on “fact or cap” a story off snap chat.
Part of me didn’t think this was a real fruit.
The last thing I ever expected was that it GREW FROM A MONSTERA???
MY MIND IS BLOWN FOR THE DAY AND I OPENED MY EYES 3 MINUTES AGO 😅🥲🤣🤣

Officially adding this plant to the TOP of my dream plant list!!

Put it, standing upright in a glass and cover with a brown paper bag. It will ripen from the bottom up. Wait until the scales are almost falling off any resistance, and it’s not ready yet.

If you eat it early when it is unripe, it contains calcium oxalate, and you don’t want that.

This legit triggered my trypophobia. Note to self to never ever get a monstera.
