I just started gardening and I started with cherry tomatoes, Lisbon bunching onions, garlic, and sugar baby watermelon.

The watermelon (in big round pot) and tomatoes (in big rectangle container) seem to be doing the best in terms of growth. I've noticed some tiny little mite like bugs in my soil though so I've started spraying diluted alcohol and sprinkling cinnamon on the top and mixing into the top inch or so. I also will try to water less so I don't drown the plants or invite these bugs back but I'm not sure if that'll work.

The 2 tan pots are onions (on top) and garlic (on bottom). The onion was growing fine as a seedling but I feel like it's growing a lil slowly now compared to the tomatoes and watermelon but I also don't know if I'm just being impatient or if I damaged the root system when I transplanted them.

I need tips!!!

As some info on my setup:
~The window these are at is south facing
~my apartment doesn't get colder than 65 degrees right now cuz it's spring but I also live in the Northeast region so it has the potential to get very cold
~i was watering once a day but after seeing the lil mites I cut back
~these are recently transplanted from a seed starting cup

Do you plan on putting them outside eventually? They really need direct sunlight to grow well. Also, that soil is quite low. It really should be to the very top of the pot since it’s already a fairly small area for roots to grow in.

I don’t have time for specific advice right now but I highly recommend watching some YouTube videos to learn the basics. A couple channels I really enjoy are Gardening in Canada (which had a similar cool climate as us in the northeast) and Millennial Gardener. Both will give you quality advice. Ashley from Gardening in Canada is a soil scientist so most of her advice is backed by science and she has videos on so many different topics. I’m 35 and have been gardening my whole life but I still learn new things from her videos. Good luck and happy growing!
