Seed from a few weeks ago is now starting to sprout. Would you all recommend adding a starter fertilizer or hold off?

Also in Michigan and seed just starting to sprout. Couple comments say hold off on starter fertilizer but curious why?

Why did you spread seed on top of mulch?

I’d wait another week for better germination then do quarter to half recommended fertilizer application but also double the frequency of the applications. You’ll be putting the same amount of fertilizer down, but spread it out more over time. Some call it spoon feeding. I’ve personally found a better response to applications this way and for fert like urea, you lose less of it to the atmosphere as it will gas off ,depending on the brand and other factors.

You dont want to walk on it at all. Wait until you have cut it 2 or 3 times

Have you put any fertilizer down yet? For new seed you want something with more phosphorus(middle number on the fertilizer analysis) but will need your N and K as well. Won’t need much for that smaller spot.

That was your phase one growth. Add more seed, then a very thin top layer of quality soil over that, and continue to water diligently. Will all fill in in time

I was alway told the starter fertilizer goes down just before seeding? I Am I wrong. I’ve had great success With It.

2-4 weeks after seeding you can put down starter fertilizer.

Don’t fertilize until you’ve pulled out those chips out of there. Get some quality topsoil from a local supplier, reseed, then use a starter fertilizer. This will end up a pretty strong bald spot if you don’t do something about that topsoil.

This looks exactly like my yard right now, also did Scott’s top soil. I raked every twig out of my yard just to throw mulch all over it I guess haha

Still not bad after having the much mulch.
I had the same prob but I ordered from a company and I realized to late. Still had good germination

You should actually do that where the rest of the green stuff is
