Landscaper just put down new centipede sod yesterday and it’s coloring is off. Is this damaged/bad sod that needs to be replaced, or will this green up more in a few weeks?

I really don’t want have this pulled up and redone. Any guidance appreciated.

1 day isn’t much to go by. Like just needs heavy watering

Looks normal. It will green up as long as you water it right.

  3. Honestly that looks mostly dead and heavily water damaged

That don’t look like any healthy sod I’ve ever seen.

Nah, it’ll bounce back! I had this happen. I hit it with a lot of water. It was fine in a couple of weeks.

  6. Louisiana here – I put down sod a month ago and it looked close to this. Watered 3x a day for first week, 2x a day second week, and as needed since then. It’s totally blended in.

Looks like its sat on a pallet for a bit, no biggie it’ll bounce back. Think of it like putting a tarp down in your yard, only takes a day or so for the grass to start yellowing underneath. Same concept for grass stacked on a pallet.

Air and some water (you want moist not soaked soaked) and it will start rooting quickly.

I would record on paper somewhere the times and lengths of watering when it does die and they say it’s because you didn’t water at the right amount or something and move on.

I’m in SC and had my entire backyard resodded about 2 months ago. It looked like that for almost a week, but I watered it every day. You can still see some faint lines between the rolls of sod, but it’s growing in better and just takes time.

Did he put down bad sod or did he put sod down bad? I’m not an expert

  11. Looks fine just water the heck out of it. They did a great job getting it level with the existing grass

Having lived in Louisiana for a while i can confirm people will do anything to cut corners and put the absolute *least* amount of effort in…. especially landscapers.

That being said, options in rural areas are usually slim… so maybe this is the best they can get their hands on. In my experience new sod shouldn’t come yellow… but, if you maintain a regular, deep watering regimen you should start seeing improvements in 5-7 days. (I used to do 2x a day, atleast 15 min.. once in the morning and once in early evening.)

If not I hope you have dude’s card to come back and install, at the very least, sod that is green(ish.)

Needs more watering, just add a second daily soaking from the sprinklers and go on vacation for 2 weeks

Mine did the same for about a week. Just keep watering and it’ll spruce up.

  15. Some fertilizer milorganite and you will notice a difference

Just keep watering. Twice a day, every day for 2 weeks. 30-40 mins an area. Then dial back to once a day.
