(Please don’t ban for the critique, i really like this sub and learn a lot)
I feel like these limitations on Identification posts have gotten a bit out of hand. I often follow a post because i have the same issue and come back to find a dozen deleted comments and no Mod response.
What ever happened to the old fashion method of letting up/down votes separate the cream from the chaff. Maybe a Mod pin at the top for the perfect answer if they get around to it.
Curious to hear opinions, maybe i’m in the minority…

I do love how people keep commenting anyway, so it looks like there are 50 replies but it is just 25 deleted relies and 25 auto mods TAKE MY QUIZ!! replies

Too many people with bad replies on identification posts, and when multiple people are wrong and all agree, the upvoting doesn’t help.
The ID test is relatively simple, but shows you have a basic knowledge of what common weeds can look like.
I actually like this. If I need guesses I can talk to my neighbors. It is nice to have a place to get a real advice and learn from people who know what they are talking about. My take on it – you asked for opinions.
I’m conflicted on this. I think it’s good and I think people IDing wrong is bad but I also don’t think we have enough people who are knowledgable enough and active enough so we end up with dead threads and a lot of dead threads can kill subs.
I think an automod comment posting info on how to ID along with a disclaimer that anyone commenting without an ID flair is nothing more than a guess and a jumping off point for research. Problem with this is it requires someone writing or finding a good guide, which is work.
The quiz was good and taught me how much I don’t know, but even after passing it I find myself not comnenting because I realize I’m not actually knowledgeable enough to give anything more than a guess.
I agree with the mod, although I preface my IDs with, “I’m gonna guess …”. A lot of people are first time posters and trust members ID and buy products based on oftentimes bad info.
I think it’s a step in the right direction, having a bunch of wrong misguided answers doesn’t help anyone, to your point with the upvote/downvotes its not going to lead to the right answer because a lot of people with the same bad opinion will upvote and echo each other.
My issue is that I’ve seen some people with the ID flair on non ID posts just giving shitty advice and guidance, but I’m sure they just took the test over and over until they passed so they could look like they know what they’re talking about.
