I don’t like the way it grows. I have been tolerating and trying to root cuttings to make it look fuller but it likes to grow out and then eventually die and grow new shoots. But I just don’t like it and I want to get rid of it. Should I?!?!?

  1. I had the same complaints about mine. I dumped it in my green bin and am happy I did so 🙂

I know the feeling… Mine looked similar. I had to chop mine back to the base and added a lil handful of new soil on top. Seemed to grow back a little bushier and I found it a spot with better light ❤️ I also pinch back new growth at the top occasionally.

But don’t feel bad if you need to re home it, they are seriously a pain in the butt.

Mine is neglected outside and living its best life 😆

I had a really scraggly one (and killed multiple before this… ) but I cut it back and gave it alot more light and now it is nice and bushy and looks way better.

i make sure to let the plants i don’t like know that i don’t like them with words of discouragement here and there. “i never should’ve bought you.” “waste of a good pot” etc etc.

Ive found that if I’m not loving a plant I’m not enjoying my time with it and not giving either of us a good time *so* I tend to rehome them. <3 It opens up my schedule to take better care of the rest of the plants I have or maybe even get a new one to love even more.

It needs more light… like a lot. I also dislike mine a bit. She’s just a picky bitch tbh.

They need a lot of light but don’t always tolerate direct (though they’re supposed to be able to tolerate some) and you have to pinch back the tops to get them to grow bushier.

I didn’t know about that last bit but apparently pinching the top couple of new leaves convinces the plant to grow out more than up. I don’t fully understand how it works but I’m trying it on mine.

My MIL has one that’s flourishing, I just got a cutting haha They’re so pretty! Chances are, if you aren’t loving it, it can feel that. It might be better to find a new home for it!

  9. All plants should give you joy ! If you don’t like it then it’s time to give it away and get another in its place that you have wanted . I always use the one out one in method lol

It would like a taste of sunlight, like a lot more. Give it the brightest window you have. It shouldn’t be anywhere near that leggy. Shit load more light and the leaves will be much much closer together, after that let it grow to around 10 inches and clip 4 inches off it, they do best propagating in 3-4 inch segments. If you keep trimming it down to 6 inches or so everytime it hits 10 inches or so it’ll branch out and get bushy, no need to fill the pot with other plants to get it to bush out. This pot(picture below because reddit is dumb with adding pictures to a lot of text) is only 3 plants, one of each color.

I do believe that if it’s no longing bringing you joy, you should get rid of it. I would personally rehome it instead of just throwing it out. Your trash may be someone else’s treasure.

It kind of looks like the plant is tired of you, too. Perhaps it’s just a case of incompatible personalities!😅

Give it to someone you like even less. Shadenfreude for the soul.

It says it doesn’t like you either

    Hypoestes.
Does that pop have drainage in the bottom?

I’ll adopt it from you. And you can come and see it whenever you want
