Thank you for posting to r/plantclinic!

It looks like you may be asking about a cactus or succulent. In addition to any advice you receive here, please consider visiting r/cactus r/succulents for more specialized care advice.

A common problem with cacti and succulents is etiolation. This is when a succulent stretches or becomes leggy. Reply with “!etiolation” for advice.

I take it as a good example that a lot of things will always be unknown, out of our control and that doing everything right doesn’t mean you’ll always get perfect results. They are the same plant and very similar but that doesn’t mean they will have the same requirements or grow equally well.

That said, I would start by checking for pests and treating both plants for pests regardless of if I find evidence of them.

Maybe a plant was planted there that used up all the nutrients and so that cactus requires extra fertiliser. Could be something rediculous like a big limestone rock right under it changing the local acidity. The soil is more compacted because that’s the spot was where your town’s founder used to dance under the full moon. Maybe it’s spite because you named it Kyle and the other cactus King Cutie.

As it is above is not so below.

They may just have different size root systems, or as the other commenter said there could be the difference with the composition of the soil.
