Looking for advice on how to maintain temp overnight.
I have a 55 gallon black drum filled with water on the north side of my hoop house. After trying that for a few weeks and not seeing an appreciable gain in overnight air temp at soil level I noted that the barrel was noticeably cool during the day.
So I added the hose in the picture with a small pump to circulate, now the barrel is getting up to ~20degrees F warmer than outside air temps. Which is great, but still the overnight air temp is not significantly warmer.
Any tips?
Was considering running the hosing under ground as well.

The insulation quality of a hoop house is very low. You aren’t going to keep it warm using passive methods. You need electric or fuel heating.

I’m using a milk house electric heater- and it takes a lot of effort for it to keep our greenhouse warm on really cold nights, as soon as the sun starts to go down we cover the whole greenhouse with a heavy canvas tarp. If you live in a cold area you can’t expect a barrel of water or anything like that to keep it warmer then the outside air. We’ve even tried the decomposing straw bale way to heat, lol. I leave a dozen jugs of water in it open for the humidity though
