I live in central Ohio and would love some help on what to do here. I fertilized a few weeks ago but wondering if I should aerate and overseed? Fertilize again?

I’m not great at this so I would appreciate any help!!

Late summer/early fall is the best time to seed cool season lawns.

Regardless, if you are you looking for information about how to overseed a cool season lawn. You can find a comprehensive guide [in this post here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/lawncare/s/pUsKCxyvwQ)

  3. Yep, mine too. Same area. I totally failed last Fall on prepping for this year.

I too have no clue what to do at this point, especially with the dang dirt spots. Having a 110lb dog doesn’t help me either.

I expect I’ll have to spread out seed. Likely scratch up all the stupid dirt spots first. Maybe throw down some bags of topsoil into them, mixed with starter fertilizer. Then figure out how to keep the dog off while keeping it all moist for three-four weeks while the need seed tries to grow.

    Then do proper fall maintenance.

  4. I mean – aeration wouldn’t hurt at all. You can rent a machine from your local tool rental shop for a day and hammer it out (rent a compost spreader while you’re at it). Then scalp what you have left with your mower (picking up the plugs while you’re at it). Finally – seed, top-dress with some compost, and some good starter fertilizer. Keep the soil moist (not saturated) for a couple weeks.

If you go hard you could do it all in a day, but I’d likely spread it out over the weekend. Make sure the fridge is stocked with beer. 🍻
