Hello,
First time home owner that inherited a mess of a yard. It appears almost all of it is weeds and dirt. I planned on using glyphosate and waiting a few weeks to seed the entire thing.
Is it okay to use a weed and grass killer? I see recommendations for “grass safe” chemicals, but I’m not sure if that’s what I need.
Appreciate it.

Late summer/early fall is the best time to seed cool season lawns.
Regardless, if you are you looking for information about how to overseed a cool season lawn. You can find a comprehensive guide [in this post here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/lawncare/s/pUsKCxyvwQ)

lol well I guess from the deleted comments we know what the consensus is
Is it 70% one kind of weed? If so and you don’t want to go all out you can find a killer for that type or glyphosate just the pieces that are weeds. Trying not to get my comment taken down but there are ways around it without starting completely new. Just might take longer since it’ll have to be done in the spring and fall
You couldn’t just wait to get a photo in the daylight?

Experts (supposedly) recommend aerating and reseeding clear areas and overseed those areas with grass. I compost and seed and rake it gently and tamp for good seed to soil contact. Keep soil from drying out with watering late morning and early evening or more if necessary.

Oh in Alabama they do it every year and then they rake it and seed it with fine fescue grass
You should overseed with weeds
