A look back at how we grew food in grow bags and containers. This completely changed how much more we were able to grow food in our urban backyard garden. Can’t wait to add more to this project this year, working in the garden has always been a way for me to clear my mind and I know how important it is to not just take care of the body, but also the mind.

▶ABOUT PLANTED IN THE GARDEN
We are Char and Marv

We are gardeners from Toronto on a mission to inspire others to grow their own food—no matter experience or space available. We completely fell in love with growing a garden not only because we get fresh, homegrown food but we also cultivate a deeper connection to where our food comes. That same joy is then shared with our family, friends and community.

Our gardening journey has allowed us to grow on windowsills, a balcony garden, community gardens, to a thriving backyard garden jungle. When our summer season ends, gardening never stops for us. We found a way to keep on growing indoors, using a garage grow tent, hydroponics, laundry room and even a basement grow room. We just love to experiment and to try new things. We hope to show you that anyone can grow their own food, no matter where you are. Year-round gardening is truly possible, even in Canada or around the world!

We believe in simple, wholehearted living, loving what you do and doing it with love! Thank you for joining along with us on this gardening journey.

We appreciate you taking the time to watch our video. Let’s all grow and eat more plants! ♡

  1. I absolutely love your food collecting trays. Did you make them?

And you've really inspired me, I'm doing a lot more this year. I've used grow bags before but I bought 20 more and I've realized looking around I might need a few more than that 🤣🤣🤣

  2. Great video, I love the trellis idea. Can you please list the materials that you used? I would really like to do this for my garden.

  3. From the first sprouts of spring to the frost-covered harvests of winter, growing food in grow bags offers a simple yet rewarding way to cultivate fresh produce year-round. Through each season, the plants adapt, thrive, and provide nourishment straight from the soil. Tender greens in the cool spring air, vibrant tomatoes and peppers basking in the summer sun, hearty root vegetables maturing in autumn, and resilient winter crops standing strong against the cold—each stage brings a new chapter in this journey of self-sufficiency.

  4. Great video, amazing garden. My garden is my therapy.
I have a couple of questions, what was that black knife you were using, and how do you deal with pests like raccoons, squirrels, rabbits etc

Kulang yan. Samantalang Ikaw lagi kang maayos ang katayuan, may guard, pinapayungan PAG mainit, kumaiain sa oras. Pera ng taong bayan Yan . Wala kang malasakit sa tao. Gahaman sa titulo, pero tulog sa serbisyo!

  6. How do you keep the critters out from your garden? We have a small garden at my church and it's always a battle to keep them from eating the plants.😓

  7. You have a beautiful voice I wish you used it more often as you are doing things in the garden you don’t have to look at the camera if that is your concern but just talk about what you are doing and why other than that love your videos

  8. I just can't believe you're growing all this food in your backyard in the GTA I have no excuse also where did you buy that greenhouse?

  9. I almost liked the video until you showed you are sponsored by a Zionist company that supports genocide and also doesn't help people. Have you not seen how problematic Betterhelp is?

  10. Hey what do you use for your drip irrigation? It's one the next steps I really want to pursue but don't know how to get started

  11. wow what a montruous work but such a beautiful garden and yummy food so much diversity no wonder you have the winter blues .. do you buy the plants or start them from seeds?

  12. What size is the lumber in the beginning of the video @plantedinthegarden? Are they 2×2? I've been trying to think of an affordable way to trellis vine crops with grow bags.

  13. I just started watching your channel and I am addicted. Such a productive garden in not a large space. Thanks for showing the grow bags. I'm going to be using them this year as well so it was inspiring to see what you can do with them.

  17. How many valves for drip irrigation, and what is your watering schedule?
I just discovered your channel recently, and i enjoy a lot of your videos.

  18. なるほど、地面に栽培していれば水の供給は雨任せです。

    しかし、菜園造りの美しい才能をお持ちですね!!アイディア、そして美的構想と手腕の総合芸術を見ています😊

  19. Your videos are so therapeutic. As full as it is, there is also an order in your garden as you tend to it so well.May your garden be bountiful now and always.
I wish you peace and strength.

  20. Thanks for this! I surely find gardening therapeutic for my soul. It was very interesting for me to see the underlying structure of your garden! I really try to grow vertically these days too, but alas I’m not handy like you so I employ T posts with a Florida weave or Hortinova trellis, and spiral metal posts for climbing beans. I was wondering if you did much preserving of all that bounty, then you showed your canner! I love my All American canner! In the winter I keep my mind busy with my interesting bread 🥖 hobby, it’s almost as endless a subject as gardening!

    Klaus

  21. Can I ask why do you use individual grow bags by the fence as opposed to in the ground or planter boxes ? Also what does your garden face that it gets enough light at all corners please?
