    That is a Staghorn Fern, a different plant, living on the tree. They get most of their nutrients/water, from the air, so they do not harm the host tree.

    These are really cool. From what I understand they take a while to grow that big.

    This is an Elkhorn fern (*Platycerium bifurcatum*).
