As far as more traditional, that will depend on how rigid those curly limbs are. You might wanna consider going with the current training and just make a gnarly ass Mugo. Or you could take off the limbs twisting in one direction and possibly make it windswept?

I hear mixed reviews on when to work on these guys. My heart tells me to do spring but I’ve read the middle of summer is the best time to do all of your pruning. And repotting. I’m too scared I’m going to kill em if I work on them in July
