    Well, it looks a bit like mechanical damage. When the leaf is newly forming, if it gets any bumps/scratches/rubs those can leave permanent damage like this.

    They can go into dormancy, might be what’s happening.

    My leaves always end up wonky when I’m batteling thrips. You sure you ain’t got bugs?
