Could you please explain about the prickles on Cucumbers and if they go away with age. Ive always had to scrub mine back. Perhaps I picked them too young?
Really have been enjoying the videos, energetic personality and love Dale.. I've learned a lot from your experience on specific plants however I must admit that I suffer through all the product descriptions and discussions. I don't buy anything for my garden, sticks and Vines and rocks make perfect trellises covers what not. I do buy twine however when I hear things like aviation cable and tomato clips, I have to move on. We are off gridding and extremely serious about growing however the reason is to stop buying things. That is the main reason..
So in Phoenix area, grow them like our tomatoes? Plant mid feb (after last frost), and done by mid-late June even with shade cloth. I’ve found morning sun and afternoon shade is better spot in the backyard garden.
I gave up growing cucumbers after three consecutive years losing the plants to the squash bugs. It hurts seeing hundred of baby cucumbers dying over night. Those bugs have very sharp teeth. Thanks God they don't bite my bitter melons, which is the only one I have succeed planting.

I used to live in NJ also. I moved to Tenn. My first year my cucumbers were amazing. I tried Beit Alpha and got nothing. I see now what went wrong. I will try again. your way. I freeze extra cukes I love putting them in shakes. So I never waste veggies. Very informative video. Thank you

I'm going to try some of those self setting this year but I have tons of bees. Never had a problem there except the zuchinni since they never seem to come out ar the same time

The video only focused on pollination but didn’t share any actual tips for growing cucumbers. One method that works well for me is using dry yeast mixed with warm water and sugar. Let it rise, then dilute with more water and feed it to the plant. It really helps speed up growth!

For the gallon jug with the fertilizer is that per plant getting the full gallon or is that to use for multiple plants?
I used to live on LI. I used the same shade cover for over 5 years to protect my garden in late July and August. We moved to NC recently and I assume that shade cloth will need to go up sooner, so your videos will be a good guide.

It may help to use actual soil with a mulch which raises bacteria in the soil. Remember that soil minerals are broken-down by the organisms with humic acid.
I carefully follow your videos now as every piece of advice of yours Ive followed has improved my garden! I am a little stuck on something in this video though. I came to this vid specifically looking for fertilizer advice for cucumbers. I see you are using organic and then also a synthetic mixed in. Can you make a video about this method or do you have one because a lot of what I have come across says to pick organic or not and why use the organic if you are going to use some synthetic, why not just full synthetic?

I hand pollinate all my cucurbits whenever I spy an open flower. It is a pain with small flower cultivars like cukes, but relying pollinators is a gamble. Some years they just shun you, while you sit there like an idiot thinking everything is fine. The years they do show up are invariably the same years that vine borers decide to plan a sneak attack and kick you in the balls, leaving you helpless while your plants curl up and turn into goo. Damnit I hate borers.

Since I started having my own bee hives, everything has been producing more, that includes all my fruit trees, at least the ones the moose haven't done power pruning on.
I wish I had known about parthenocarpic and gynoecious before I bought my seeds.

This sounds like a dead end genetic game in the name of immediate gratification. There are amazing heirlooms to save seed from, with predictable results. Grow seedless watermelons or various hybrids of other crops for 6 years and what have you got to plant with with any reliable productiveness? I mix it up. There is much to be said about productivity, be it hybrid or heirloom.
Question regarding going to seed: On some of these harder to find varieties can you let it fully mature, go to seed, die and use those seeds for next planting season?
