After watching Les Stroud (Survivorman) cook and eat wild plants I was wondering about this plant I found on the beach in CA. What is it? Are the leaves or flowers edible? Thanks.
“edulis” actually means edible though IDK which part/s of the plant that’s referring to

There is more than one plant called ice plant.
That said if you’re going to be invasive the least you can do is be edible.

Looked this up when I was traveling in San Fransisco, Big Sur a few months back. Loved that it was all over the sand dunes. Learned it’s invasive as hell – “Ice Plant” but like some said, there are several that go by that name.
It was brought in to keep soil erosion to a minimum waaaaay back when. It spread rapidly to other places.

Common name is ice plant. I’ll have to look a bit to find the specific name…
Edit: Here’s an article on it brought up by googles…
