At this time of year, I didn’t expect to find such vibrant colour and scent at Kew Gardens, but the new Winter Garden is a masterclass in banishing winter gloom! I went with my daughter and we were both absolutely blown away by the combination of colours, textures and fragrances, all from plants that are easily grown all over.

A winter garden is such a lovely idea!
Hi Alexandra, Thank you so much for this video. It's amazing ๐
Thank you.
Beautiful video โคโค lovely
I have been working on my winter garden for a couple of years now. One plant we have here is called Colorscape Nandina, which has leaves that stay bright red all winter long. I have people walk on by that just stop in the cold to stare, because they've never seen anything like it before.
Some of the combinations are stunning.
Good morning Alexandra, winter gardens are stunning. It is amazing how the scents can fill the air, maybe because of the dampness on the woody plants and the mulch, I am not sure. Nature seems to show us we do not have to have elaborate gardens to enjoy the plants and grasses. Love the black Mondo grass with the snowdrops showing off their beautiful white flowers. I agree totally, better to call in the professionals to cut/trim those branches. The pink Hellebores are looking stunning. Thank you for share as always, many blessings. Kind regards.
Such clever gardening! And nothing amateurish about the filming via camera either ๐Thanks Alexandra, always informative and fun.
Really beautiful! I absolutely love Silver Birch trees in winter and when they are in leaf. Thank you Alexandra. X
Spectacular Winter Garden ๐. Thank you Alexandra ๐๐๐ผ
I would like ,if possible, information on camera and hand held filming of my gardens for next summer when completed. It may even be of interest to see me working at it .But no knowledge of film making so needs to talk about all of this you find no problem talking and showing gardens. i could even show Rundale Castle gardens near by me in Latvia .It was Catherine the Great of Russia winter palace in intent but she died before moving in .
Itโs my understanding that the winding paths were added to prevent flooding that was coming down straight paths and washing them out. Just something to think about for those that garden on a slope.
๐Alexandra,,THANK YOU for All of the Wonderful footage.. Here in the US we are starting to warm up.. (This week),, but who knows what Next week will hold..
The winter garden at Hilliers Arboretum in Romsey Hampshire is also very similar with all the same plantings and trees.
Fascinating and very timely for my son and I currently landscaping his first garden. Thanks for posting.
Angelsey Abbey, Cambridgeshire has a beautiful winter garden, it has been there a long time.
Late winter, early spring.๐ I love your videos.
Thank you once again this time for this lovely winter scenes video. I have put carex a low growing grass in my one year old winter garden the rabbits love it !!! Strange they nibble away on the carex but pull the stipa on the other side of the path up leaving it on top of the soil. I've had to move the photinia because of extensive rabbit damage. Hopefully though things will improve the magnolia remain untouched as do the cornus and snowdrops tho rabbit digging does disturb them. I'm trying Irish spring soap bars as a deterrent. Thank you again as the Kew garden gives me encouragement to carry on despite these setbacks.
This is why I love Kew, it's just lovely, thank you.
Are tree surgeons expensive there? What I believe the equivalent would be here would typically charge hundreds to thousands of dollars per tree. Typically normal people would only hire them if they had to for safety purposes to remove a tree. Most of the time if someone is hiring tree trimming it is the electric company and they pretty much just cut a path for the lines. Sometimes a company will, and like the place I live does once a year to trim trees away from trailers or up away from roads. But they knew nothing about trees when i tried asking questions….. and the weird stumps and wonky cuts on my neighbors maple tree show it as well.v
Hi Alexandra! Good evening! I love all your content, ideas and inspiring tours and gorgeous garden! Thank you for your loving hard work!
Greatโค
Thank you Alexandra!! Great video!! We need beauty during these dark days!!
I completely agree – it is very important when designing a space, particularly in colder climes, to design a garden with winter in mind. That is what we are doing. Winters are just too long here. Note for those of us who canโt grow Tibetan cherries, consider Acer griseumโฆ
I think this also brings up an important design dilemma for those of us who are gardening in middle-size spaces. Do you focus your flower bed via season to maximize impact – or go 4 season? I chose instead to create focal points that are seasonal or may stand out more seasonally to mix things up because I felt I could not afford the space. Example: Chief Joseph lodgepole pine Zone 6 New England
Great video! I particularly like the silver birch and snowdrop combo, so am going to copy that ๐
A few years ago I went to Kew and they had paired the black grass with yellow aconites. I felt that was a lovely combo too.
