Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland, Australia, about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online, so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

G'day Everyone! I hope you are all "getting into it" and remember that you don't have to be self-sufficient in everything; just be self-sufficient in something, which can help a LOT! https://selfsufficientme.com/support-me/ Cheers 🙂
Hi, new subbie here, I am over from ROCKPILE Off-Grid Homestead, she did a big shout out for some Aussie Homesteaders… looking at starting a vegie garden in my small backyard… so looking for ideas… thanks for sharing your knowledge…
We have at least one thing in common, we both started our gardening in Wodonga, although mine was 30 odd years before you. You headed north to sunny Qld, and I headed further south, first to east Gippsland, then Melbourne.
Good video Mark really good info for everyone ❤ love the channel mate
Hi Mark, where did u buy your mesh baskets that you put over the lettuce. I've seen bins at kmart but have solid bases. Thanks
Why is your channels logo an eye?
Russell Crowe has really taken his gardening seriously.
With the growing cost of everything I really want to start growing my own veggies but had no idea where to start. Thank you for making it so clear in a nice light hearted way.
Love your work mate! I’m in in FNQ and started a hobby farm 3 years ago. You and your family are welcome to visit any time! I have livestock as well on 5 acres. Sheep, goats etc 😊
I’m a bit different in that I have livestock and and only a few vegie patches and I like to grow edibles in a pretty way too. Not saying your garden is not pretty! I know you probably get a lot of messages like this but I’d love to share info and get your input so if you feel like a tropical holiday shout out 😊
Australia Day Lunch refers to the meals and gatherings that take place on January 26th, Australia Day, commemorating the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788. It is a public holiday celebrated with various activities including barbecues, picnics, and community events.
People often enjoy traditional Australian foods such as:
– Barbecued sausages
– Grilled meats
– Meat pies
– Lamingtons (sponge cake)
– Vegemite sandwiches
– Pavlova (meringue dessert)
It's a day of celebration, reflecting on Australia's history, culture, and the diversity of its people. Many families and friends come together to enjoy food, outdoor activities, and festivities.
I just learned this
I know i've asked already but can you by any chance show how to grow mangosteens?! I bought 3 different varieties of them and i'm growing them indoors while the trees are small. I'm in Allenstown, New Hampshire USA and there isn't any known successful exotic trees here so i'm experimenting 🙂
Love Mark and his humour ❤❤😂
Keep up with the good work Mark!!

Is it possible to grow an avocado tree here in the states ?
I have very poor soil/ dark coloured sand, that is so poor that only ants will live near it. I have 7.5 x 5 metres of ground in the front yard that I want to plant veggies. Short of raised garden beds, Do I just mulch, fertilize, "organic-ify" the entire area to build up the soil! It is so bad, zucchini won't grow, pumpkins are stunted and the water runs away unless I use alot of water penetrator solution. !!!! I live in SA, about 2km in from the coast.
Awesome video Mark
g'day Mark bad news somone by the name "AcrossDaSpectrum" is reposting your videos trying to profit off them, already reported them though i hope other followers do the same
Hello Mark. Shout-out from Tennessee USA. Been subscribed to your channel a few days and really like the content. I was wondering, what is your growing zone, rainfall average, frost dates, that sort of thing. You might touch on it in the next video. Thanks Mark. Have a good one 👍
I live in uk, but im developing a self sustainable farm with commercial viability in Souther tropical region of india at my homeland, including indoor mushrooms for daily supply and income, black pepper, ginger turmeric, jackfruit plantation, cocoa, tappioca, banana, cashew, guavas, seasonal vegitables and so on. My ultimate aim is to buy more land in future, try to achieve 90% sustainability though sustainable farming and the best place for that i believe is tropical region due to 365 days of harvesting.
