This is a 2 year procrastination – I started to remove all these rocks by hand so can redo this weird center area in our yard 🤦🏽‍♀️ I lasted about 20 minutes and figured I should probably ask if anyone smarter than me has a better idea to get this cleared out. 🙂 Any advice here?

I’ve done it with a pitch fork and rake. Took all the removed rock and hosed it down on the driveway to get rid of the dirt.

  2. Make a simple wood frame with 2x4s. Staple or nail a 1/4 inch mesh on one side. Put the stones in the frame and wash. Works great and you can control where the rinsed soil and sand to.

  3. The smart thing is to hire someone to remove it.

The smarter thing is to post in social media as free rock to whoever takes it away.

The smartest thing is to have teenagers and make them do the work.

If all fails? Yeah you have to put your adult pants and do it. Sorry pal.

That’s not that many rocks. Just do a little bit at a time every day

Go to the hardware store and get two 2x4s, an adequately sized steel mesh, and heavy duty staples. Cut the 2x4s to form a square frame. Staple the mesh onto one of the frames with many, many staples (hammer them fully into the wood). Screw both frames together, firmly sandwiching the steel mesh (it might be a good idea to do two layers of mesh). Use it as a screen to shovel rock/dirt onto and pan the screen in a motion that sifts the dirt but screens the rock.

    You’ve got this.

That’s not a big space. Just get to it. It will take more time trying to engineer a smart fix.

I’m in the middle of doing this too and I’m using a garden riddle, it’s like a giant sieve. And then I get all the stones In a bucket and hose them down so I can use them elsewhere. It’s long but I think it’s the only way.

I removed probably 30-40x this much over the course of a couple years. It was around my entire house and pool that I removed. Put some head phones on and get after it. I lost about 25 pounds doing it last summer

We have cleaned beds 4’-5’ wide by 100’ long, commercial property stone removal.. we used to do a lot of clean up jobs like this. I’m going tell you this, we don’t quote those jobs anymore.. lol.
It’s just a lot of muscle and time. Just look at it as a nice work out and you’ll get it done. Use hard rakes, flat shovels and digging shovels

Brother, I need river rocks, if I can have them I’ll come to you and take them

Doesn’t take much effort to remove that small amount of rock from the center area. Get a shovel and a wheel barrow and start scooping. If you have some small “sand” bags, fabric bags or stronger, fill them about 1/3 of the way and tie them. You can prob sell them by the bag on FB marketplace.

Sundays are for getting hammered and picking stones.

I removed rocks three years ago ans now the side of my house is a wading pool when it rains.

I had an area about 10 x that. I posted about free river rocks on craigslist and people came and took them for free.

Post to a local Facebook neighborhood and see if a couple of kids want to earn a couple hundred dollars to remove them all. Otherwise booze, music, and sweat.
