I cut my collards off at the root in a pot and they grew back! Shocker.
Hi there in particular which type of carrots have you had luck with?
Corn earworm. Nasty critter. I’m growing tromboncino, tomatillo and Cossack pineapple groundcherry for the first time this summer in zone 9a Georgia.
I had a bag of russet potatoes start sprouting have you had any luck of rooting them and growing them here?
I wanna know the farmer's secrets….I live in tomato land and these guys are cranking out tomatoes by the truckloads well into the summer…..I know they dump pounds and pounds of hormones and pesticides on those plants but how do they get them to produce…..by June our home garden tomatoes are begging to be pulled out
I have the same thing with my beet I am going to try the 511 fertilizer on my beets thanks for sharing I am in Florida zone 10a 🎉❤
Great segment. Thank you.
I gave up on my tiny beets and pulled them. Replanted a different variety and I have some Alaska Fish fertilizer, I'll try that. Chantenay Red Core and St. Valery are carrots that do well for me. Zone 9a.
Hi Petrina, Today I planted seeds for 8 varieties of tomatoes (My 2025 tomato trial)that are open pollinated, determinate and recommended for hot humid weather. Question, are Neptune and Floridade resistant to nematodes? What has been your experience. Thank you for mentioning Kewalo in one of your videos, it lead me to two more Hawaiian varieties that are nematode resistant.
It's the warm Atlantic, and the H pressure that is building in to our E., which will be pumping in warmer weather. The advantage for us is the sun still won't be at full peak, so, we will still have nice night time temps…Rumor has it, our rains may move in in Feb to March….
La Nina is pretty set. How long it will last is up in the air. What is does mean for us, is more hurricane activity from the Atlantic vs the Gulf. ..You have me wanting to run grab my seeds and get to planting. But, I still can't get to my beds. Yes, it's been 4 months since Milton, and my roof is still wide open, my kitchen is still gutted, and the greenhouse is still a big pile of mess. Everyone keeps moving the dates. The greenhouse people won't rebuild until the neighbor removes the tree that is ready to fall…yep..right back on the greenhouse. I did get my potatoes planted, so I feel like that is a win. Do what you can..😆😆
My broccoli already bolted. I am in Ormond beach
Oh Heaven's to Betsy!!! I found you around September of last year & you are a fabulous teacher!!! I have a seed shop and I've wanted to send you some. I just looked for your P.O. Box AND were almost neighbors!!! Were in Brooksville 🐝🌹🦩
This was the first year I tried beets and I had the same experience. I'm in wetlands Louisiana so I am going to try some Alaska fish fertilizer
Ive started my loofah and I'm in 9a. Last year it took 4ever
I have been vegetable gardening here in Florida zone 10a for 3 years now, and this fall I threw out all of the planting rules and planting seasons and just started planting all kinds of seeds indoors in August and September and then started putting my starter plants into my garden in October and November. I was able to get a crop of potatoes and plant another crop, some peppers, tomatillos, broccoli, radishes, lettuce, spinach greens, bok choi, cucumbers (for the first time) my tomatoes are coming in now my Brussel sprouts are almost ready to harvest. My winter/spring garden is in full production mode. Is this cayous gardening? I don't know, but it feels good, and it's working for me. I start seeds every few weeks and always have a plant ready to go into my garden as I get room. I started more seeds tonight. While my broccoli is almost done for the season, I'll have a big space to plant my eggplants in a few weeks. This has been my most productive garden so far. We got cucumbers, so we made pickles for the first time today. Yes, pickels on February 1st now thats a win for me. 😅 Happy spring gardening!
When do you plant the sweet potato slips in green stock? I plan to do the same cause I’ll be moving and want to take my green stalks with me
Great info, thank you!
My husband was listening in the background and told me to save this video and when i replay it, to write everything that you said down! 🙂
We need all the info that you have provided bc for a long time now weve been gardening "blindly"😂
Thank you so much, you are an invaluable source! 🙏
Thank you for the info love that you included your fruit trees I have 14 now 😂 most are in containers for now. But perennial veggies I want to concentrate on. I live in Florida 10b
You were saying no space for Apple tree while not plant next to the fence doing the French style essapane train the tree to run down wire cables runs next to the fence length wides just a idea from fellow in Cayman islands going try myself with lime trees so easy to harvest go for it
Something my father taught me was to tie some of the leaves up around the cauliflower head. It keeps them whiter and taste better. I use strips of tee shirts.
You are in Florida, I'm in North Carolina, but your video is very informational and easily pertains to me. Thanks
Global warming directly affects predicted frost dates.
My Broccoli are growing wonderfully they are the heirloom organic waltham 29.I have harvested about 3 nice sizes head!Went out in the garden to harvest my mustard greens and saw I have more broccoli heads that has come up!Wow
Have you had problems with afids on your greens
Nice!! Moving soon. Zone 5 to zone 10. Super informative. Thanks!!!
At how many days or weeks old do you start to you use the Alaska fish fertilizer, do you use it full strength and how often do you apply to the beets.
Thank you for that tip on the Salanova lettuce from Johnny seed! Already in my cart. I’m in zone 10 a , you are so helpful , great video.
Can I ask when did you start your Broccoli ? I’m guessing in last year November?
Thank you for sharing! I’m planning to grow some onions, potatoes, peppers, and tomatoes this season in containers. I’ll start getting prepared!
My kale grew back after cutting the top off. Two side shoots instead of one like before.
Hey Patrina! Where do you order your white sweet potatoes from?
I am in Zone 9b new 10 a Central Fl and I grew chayote last year and I found it doesn't love heat.
I planted them in September, they loved the cold weather and now I have small chayotes.
I harvested snow carrots, and snow parsnips in the middle of January. They were super sweet, and absolutely delicious roasted. I have carrots left for one more meal. That harvest was the end of my 2024 garden.
I started seedlings for my 2025 garden on January 4th. Yesterday, I started seed starts for Tokyo Bekana Mustard, Oregano, Marjoram, basil, dill, Romaine Lettuce, assorted mixed leaf lettuces, Pak Choi, and Fordhook Swiss Chard. I have pepper seeds sprouting for six types of peppers, and have seed starts growing for broccoli, cauliflower, All Seasons Cabbage, Jolene Tomatoes, Burgundy Onions, and Yellow Potato Onions.
I’m about three weeks away from direct sowing seeds for snow peas, shelling peas, carrots, parsnips, golden beets, and turnips. I have a lot to plant between now, and April. (Alabama one 7)
Here in Alabama, pickle worms are devastating. They will destroy entire crops of cucumbers, and summer squash. Spraying with Immunox and Spinosad is essential if you don't want to eat worm riddled fruit. (You will eat Z bugs!) I haven't had any problems with them eating into my Sugar Baby Watermelons, but spraying to prevent disease is a must, the same with cantaloupe. Cedar Gall will kill fruit trees, especially apple tress, so they need to be sprayed too.
What do you use to control insects in your garden?
The zone changed in '23.
Hi,new to gardening,i have some broccoli now ,they are still small,do you think its late already ? Temperature here is 80f during the day ,from brevard
Hello! I’m near Tampa FL and have a large planter that’s all shade- is there anything I can grow that doesn’t require sun!?

Great video Petrina! Thank you! Any tips on preventing potato beetles?
Wish I knew about the slips in sweet potatoes. I pulled everything with the freeze we just had.
I love watching this!! I live about an hour south of Spring Hill and we have been devastated by the 3 hurricanes, we were hit hard. Our hurricane shutters were 4 streets over, my planting pots were a few houses away. I didn't start seeds, we still have siding missing, etc. I went to a big box store and saw the prices. $10 a pot for a veggie plant?? When did that happen?? Where was I?
