Hello. I'm a new home owner and want to take of my lawn. I live in Fresno county and it's Feb 6, so temps range from 36°F to 65° with a couple inches of rain every 2 weeks.
Im currently watering at 1pm and 7pm for 5 minutes.
The soil feels a little mushy and soft.
Can you tell me what kind of grass I have and how I should take care of it?
Thank you.

You’re overwatering. Let the ground dry between waterings.
I can’t identify from the pics (though some warm season folks may be comfortable taking a stab at it), but I can say your watering regimen needs to change.
– never ever water after the hottest part of the day.
– don’t water twice a day (unless it’s 2 cycles immediately back-to-back)
– don’t water every day.
– when soil temps are below the temps where grass goes dormant (about 60F for warm season, 45F for cool season), don’t water at all)
– when soil temps are under 70F water 1 or 2 times a week.
– in general, whenever you water, you should water for longer. You don’t water grass, you water the soil. The idea is to soak the soil down to several inches and then let it dry out before watering again. This is what “deep and infrequent watering” means, and it’s how you should water.
– when soil temps are above 70, water 2-3 times a week. But most importantly, if soil is still damp in the evening, don’t water the next day.
