  1. I have a small lawn mower bagger and it is the best way to make compost. I saw a guy with a rigged bagger made from a trashcan and air-conditioning vent once on his ride on mower.

  2. Every video is worth its weight in gold. Thank you Huw. Reading all of your books at the moment. Very well worth the small layout for them

  3. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ’ฏ great timing, need to hear this more! when I 1st start learning to grow veg I felt so much pressure to use so much compost…now, a few years later, i realise it shouldn't be the focus. it's not how things were done in the past and not practical for most of us. other mulches do the job! feels more enjoyable now.

  4. I agree compost is the heart of the garden. I have 3 large compost bays and I still don't have enough so I go through my woodchip paths, rake off the top layer to the side and take the composted woodchips farther down to mix with my food and garden waste compost to give me what I need. I replace what's taken with new chips, it takes me 5 or 6 years to cycle through all my paths so the cycle never ends.

  5. I make mine from our compost toilet
I love the look on peoples face when i tell them how the tomotoes in their sandwhich are grown, just as they are swallowing the third bite ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…

  6. Im living the dream of self sufficient compost, leaf mould and worm castings, i wish I could make my own vermiculite ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘

  7. Thank you! Im creating a new garden in much abused sandy clay soil. Ive been feeling at a lose about how to create enough compost…but maybe i dont need as much as i thought. And if i row compost one year, i can plant into that and ise last years tow as this years composting path. ๐ŸŽ‰

  8. Thoughtful video. I appreciate what you said about forgiving yourself. Sadly if we are not careful videos by garden greats like yourself can become a yardstick instead of the helping hand that was intended. I love the tip about using garden soil to up-pot. I am so focused on building more soil I was blinded to this logic. I mean its going right back in right ๐Ÿ˜‚

  9. Steamy and attractive. I will never look at my hot compost bin the same way again ๐Ÿ˜‚ Thanks to you and Charles I now make enough compost for all my needs by utilizing hot, cold, and pathway composting, so thank you Huw.

  10. great to see a new video. as usual it all makes sense. looking forward to the new book. in the meantime i dug out my copy of edible perennial gardening by Anni Kelsey, which in turn led me to the one-straw revolution by Masanobu Fukuoka.

  11. Thank you Huw! Always appreciate your videos and content… because we are always learning something new! Blessings Kiddo!๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ‘ต

  12. You just saved me a ton of money starting out. It makes sense using a little bit in the hole until I get some made. Mushroom compost here in North Carolina USA is $95 per cubic yard! I have preordered your new book. If it's anywhere near the quality of your last book it should be great! Thanks, Huw!

  13. "There's more than one path up the mountain." Gardening wisdom at its finest. Nonetheless, I was promised nothing but sunshine and rainbows when starting gardening, by the Amalgamated Sunshine and Rainbow Gardening Company. Thanks, Huw, for the detailed explanation on the compost conundrum. You are a gardening god.

  14. Just pre-ordered "The Permaculture Garden" and am looking forward with great anticipation to a fantastic gardening journey. And, agreed: leeks are the most important part of the garden. Now we just need the audio book version with you as the narrator, because such a gorgeous Welsh accent should be used as much as possible. I truly believe that your garden, hearing you talk to all the plants and shrubs and worms, is made that much better for the beauty of hearing words of encouragement in that amazing accent. Thanks for all that you do for the community. Cheers!

  15. I'm working hard to be self-sufficient with the garden and the compost. Growing soil is also a lot of fun.

  16. Got inspired by you and Jack last year and built two 4X8 hotbeds. We have more compost than I actually need this year. We produced SO much food that I'm actually going to dial it down to a 4X4 hotbed and then use the other beds as cold frames. With overwintering produce, I have found that we're now suddenly in a position where we can do a bit less and have a steadier stream of food.
