  1. I'm so happy that you share your garden's journey right from the beginning. I agree, this is also gardening! We generally find garden remake videos with almost fully finished gardens, and as a beginner gardener myself, I really enjoy watching your allotment transform 💚

  2. It just makes you feel better when you can start such a big project and start to see how you want it to look, you will get there as the saying goes Rome was not built in a day and doing it at your pace is good, all the best with it xx

  3. Ooh Kay I've been excited for you both to start on your garden. I'm in my 3rd year of a new build blank canvas clay garden. I've been adding soil improver and manure to my beds (no dig) in January each year. Some trees would look great, giving you height and privacy (I've added 3 so far).
It's trial and error with plants but they can be moved if they're not in the right place.
Looking forward to watching you and Dom progress. Thank you for your great videos. 😊

  4. You never want me to work on your garden, I just have to look at plants and they die 🙁 I do enjoy watching you transform your garden though 🙂

  5. I absolutely love your channel I found it a few weeks back and binge watched , I lost my way a bit but you’ve inspired me so much thank you ❤

  6. With clay soil drainage will always be an issue but it can be managed. Look for online articles for solutions but chances are the gravel was put down by the patio doors to assist with drainage. There is no point putting flags down without sorting this first. Go to a local garden centre where they will give you advice on suitable plants for your garden conditions instead of just buying the pretty shrubs in bloom, only for them not to survive – we have all made mistakes, that's gardening. Learning is fun and very satisfying, good luck. Ps Drawing a plan is always a good idea.

  7. Hi Kay i wach someone on here that had clay soil they dug it out 2foot down then they put soil from the garden center in and turfed it but they had a much smaller garden than you have perhaps you could do that just on the borders so that your plants grow the outher alternative would to see what plants would grow in clay conditions can wait to see how it all turns out i like your idea of having the arch as your way into the rest of the garden. I would get some buterfly ( buddllia ) bushes at the bottom of the garden they grow quite tall but not too tall but will block the neighbours view xxx❤

  8. I imagine that raised bed with the sidewalk in front of it was designed for that spot to be quick access to a kitchen garden: lettuce, herbs, etc. when you just need to nip out and pick something as you're cooking. Don't even need shoes! I think it's quite a functional thing. That said, I see your point as well.

  9. I love where you're going with your garden! A greenhouse and back patio area will be so nice. And getting rid of the little stones would definitely be better for Charlie. It's hard work getting there, but, as you know from your last garden, it's worth every minute. Looking forward to watching your garden makeover series!

  10. Hello from Canada! We have clay soil and have all raised garden beds for veggies and fruit bushes. Our hydrangeas are in the ground and do very well. Happy gardening! We are a few months from seeing the grass again. ❄️🌨️☃️🌱🌷

  11. I absolutely loved watching this vlog this winter morning! I really feel like getting out in my little garden now 👩🏼‍🌾
Thanks for taking us along, and have a lovely weekend ✨️

  12. OH I FEEL YOU! I have a toddler and my work in progress backyard! It is currently little rocks (taste good apparently lol) and DIRT! Can't wait for the backyard of my dreams. So excited to watch your progress 😊☀

  13. Love that you are keeping it real in your videos. Moving soil is especially hard work. Clay soil is challenging, but I am sure you will meet it. Can't wait for the transformation 😍

  14. Kay, you need some gardening gloves. All the way through this, i kept thinking those white gloves are going to be ruined! The same with your slippers. Get some garden shoes x

  15. Spme pleached trees alonf the bottom fence would look lovley and create privacy…. you cpuld then put a small deck/patio area there to create a seating area.

  16. Love your garden vlogs – I saw another YouTuber once who had neighbours directly overlooking their gardens high fence. She put those tight wavy style feather boards on top of her fence – they looked quite sturdy and were solidly framed – they not only looked good, they did a very good job of privacy in their garden. She had painted them with dark grey paint which was trendy at the time and planted some randomly spaced trees in front of them – tall, slim trunks and ball shaped foliage. It was really nice and did the main job of privacy whilst still making room for when the foliage grew and gave some natural cover. However you do it I look forward to watching it all unfold. 😊

  17. Great start to an amazing yard Kay! I also have terrible soil. I live in North Carolina and have red clay that is completely waterlogged like yours. For my garden beds, I try to stick to plants that like clay soil and don’t mind wet feet. For the rest of the yard, a thick layer of grass helps to wick some of the water away. You’ll get there with as much effort as you and Dom always put in. Slow and steady wins the race with gardening. As always, thank you for what you do!!❤

  18. We had the same problem. First of all sort out the drainage, then change the soil where you want to have flowerbed. Honestly, don’t waste your money buying new plants without sorting these two problems out. We ended up buying plants twice as at the beginning we thought we are saving money and we added some compost on top of the clay! Did not work at all!!! Good luck 🤞

  19. I can't wait to see your garden transformation! Some trees and shrubs will help with the window privacy. You might even be able to add those sun shades to your yard, like over Charlies play set to help give him a bit of shade and block some viewing from the upper windows as well. The plants will fill in quickly and make it all so nice and cozy. I am so excited for you. Have a great day from across the pond! (Indiana)

  20. We are in Yorkshire and our garden is clay too and at this time of year its awful. We have 2 dogs and it’s just a churned up mess. We’ve been in 7 years and still struggle but any tips you find o please share.

We have done ok growing most things. A few things we have lost as they don’t like the wet but most have been fine

  21. I've been hoping and looking SO much forward to this!! 😀 I one saw in Gardeners World or something like that, that if you plant a tree that blocks the so that you can't see it from the garden (something with angles something something) you can block so that the neighbours can not see and you get more privacy. This will as well help with the clocked grass, because the trees will soak up much more of the water with their roots 🙂 Can't wait for the next episode 😀
