I’m afraid we’ve messed up. We moved into our new build in December (north Alabama). Our sod was installed in October. I’m not even sure what kind it is. We do have an irrigation system, but have not used it as the temps have been pretty cold the last couple of months. We’ve gotten quite a bit of rain/frost/some snow. I know grass is usually dormant in winter, but this sod doesn’t seem like it has rooted at all. I’m able to pull up the edges and there are a lot of gaps which seemed to worsened over time. Is there any way to save it? Will it improve once warmer weather gets here and we start watering regularly or should I get on a schedule now? Any tips appreciated before I call an expert.

That looks dead dead to me. New sod needs a ton of water.

The time for watering had been way passed.

I’d throw some 10-10-10 down and pray.

I wouldn’t worry about the edges and gaps.

I would not worry about an expert right now. Wait until spring.

It’ll be fine. It’ll start putting off root in the spring and thrive in summer

  4. It looks like a warm season grass so I’d just leave it be until spring and give it a chance.

If you paid to have it laid, there still might be a warranty so avoid putting any chemicals on it until it takes.

Bermuda is tough but unrooted sod can’t be happy. Could just be the picture but dormant Bermuda looks more yellow, most of the pics look grey. Grey = dead

Nothing you can do till spring, I wouldn’t waste money dropping fertilizer
