this is the second time this has happened to this pothos specifically and to another one when it was on the same spot on my shelf – i’m not sure if it’s light or dirt related.

i feel like a horrible plant mom.

i know it’s root rot i’m just not sure why it’s happening – they r in a south east facing window.

please send advice bc id love for this to not happen again.

What type of potting soil do you use? How often do you water?

I think this pot is too big they like to be rootbounded

If you know it is root rot and it keeps happening it is likely that you are watering too often and/or your pot has poor drainage and/or your soil retains water too long. Regular potting soil in a smaller pot is usually fine.

Water when the pot feels light. When you water completely saturate the soil and let the pot drain. Don’t water on a schedule.

Agreeing with the others. Pot may be too big, they like their roots snug. It looks like you got a lot perlite in there but I like to throw a chunky medium in as well— right now I use a soil, perlite and bark mix.

If it’s root rot, how often are you watering / what are your indicators to water?

Let the soil dry out before you water. I’ve had mine since 1991 by doing this.
