We are back on the plot this week and I am starting work on the fruit tree guild. I have two apples trees and a pear that I transplanted from the old plot and now need a new home, but first there is the last of the black plastic to come up – and it’s been absolutely pinned down by strawberry runners! I also have a rather unusual edible plant to add to the plot this year – can you guess what it is from the thumbnail? Not only is it a weird plant, I plant it in a very weird way!!! πŸ™ˆπŸ‘€ We travel back in time to the chilli seed sowing session and then we jump to the present and check in on them at nearly 2 weeks in, along with the other January sowings so far: broadbeans, sweet peppers and onions.

  1. Hi Kerry πŸ‘‹
What a fab update video. Gosh you've been busy this week with all your sowing and planting.
Love your propergator even if it's old it's still working and certainly does the job. Well done πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
Enjoy the rest of the week ❀ xx

  2. Oh Dorie.. I do love her. Love how she gets a seat at the table with you to watch what you’re up to. 🀣

Seedlings are doing well. I’m not panicking.. I’ve not sown anywhere near as many seeds as you yet. I hope Morris does well for you. Thank you for the mention.

My onions haven’t done well either and mine are fresh seed! 😭

Love the fruit tree guild. I’d like to do something similar this year. I have a plan!

Absolutely loved the random stone chucking. Was a bit nervous of the greenhouse, I must admit. 🀣

  3. WHAhahahah made my morning! Its faith here it go's. Grumbles to the rock. That dark pink flower (malva) is from the same plant famelie. Was thinking they look fab together

  4. Who knew my old tights would get so much airtime πŸ˜‚ great work at the plot- trees look lovely x your broad beans look amazing- I think I have just one seed poking its head through so far!!! Plus not sure my onions are germinating ……so maybe a trip to a garden centre is due??????

  5. Hi Kerry, as expected, a great vlog. Loved the trips to the fairisle plot. 🀣🀣 Perfect timing for the tips on fruit tree planting, we have just been given an apple tree for our 40th anniversary 😊 πŸ‘β€β€β€β€πŸ• Hope we all get through the storm safely 🀞

  6. I have to adore Dory sitting on the chair at the table watching you sowing the chilli seeds. I have just ordered a heat mat with thermostat then it will be chillis a-go. Take care. Big hugs for Dory. X

  7. Cheerful, lovely video…sitting at my kitchen table, a coffee, and your video…on this -10Β° morning…snow on the ground and dreaming of the garden. Keep warm β„οΈπŸŒ¬β„οΈπŸ’šπŸŒΏ

  8. I've been having the same issue with a new packet of Bedfordshire champions… i think you're the third person now I've seen having same issue… πŸ€”

  9. Marshmallow root is very good for sore throats, tummy upsets etc. make a cold tea with it. Nature is amazing ❀

  10. you mad woman throwing stones near a greenhouse lol funny tho and ye I was saying stick the stakes by those trees lol how long did it take for your b beans to pop cos I've had 2 trays in my polly for 2 or 3 weeks n got nothing so iv done some more yesterday and put those on my souf facing kitchen window to hopefully get some to wake up

  11. Marshmallow is a medicinal plant also you use the leaves and and flowers for tea or tinctures, it's great with mullein to clear mucus and soothe the digestive tract.

  12. There’s something especially joyous about the chunky broad bean sprouts 🌱
Lovely update Kerry, you’ve been busy! 😊

  13. Great video. The mallow plant is very interesting. The blooms will be nice. Is it in the same family as the Hollyhock? ❀❀❀

  14. She won’t turn the heating on but, if it’s for seeds, she’ll happily have them baking hot.🀦❀️

  15. So many UK Allotments seem to not understand about Brassicas and club root. Once you get clubroot, the beds need to have TEN plus years of no brassicas, its a large family!!!

  16. I wonder if square holes are a myth because once you fill them in they’re no longer square πŸ€”. My chillies 🌢️ are slowly popping up 🀞. I’m waiting for some snail mail to bring me a different bean and squash then I’ll pop yours out in the mail. I’ll let you know when they leave my house πŸ™. Have a fab week, Ali πŸ₯Ά-5c πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

Ps make sure to pop some spring bulbs under the fruit trees

  17. If the marshmallow doesn’t spread too much and as it flowers to attract pollinators would it work in the fruit tree bed?

  18. I'm fascinated with the idea of soaking the chilli seeds in tea. I know black tea has tanins which could be what breaks the surface down, but what does chamomile tea have that helps? Do other teas work too? Also a suggestion; you may want to put something under the heated propagator to protect your table. I found the heat dried out the wood of my table and caused damage.

  19. Hi Kerry. fab video, thank you. To stop the landscape fabric fraying burn the edges with a weed burner. My kitchen and utility room look like a plant nursery, lol. I have some ready to be transferred to the greenhouse- peas, sweet peas, beetroot, onions, spring onions, lettuce, ammi majus, Indoors on heat and under lights I have aubergine, chilli peppers, sweet peppers, geranium and antirrhinums. Happy growing πŸ™‚

  20. Interplanting is a great idea, but just remember it's a good idea to have a nice block of brassicas wherever you plant them coz they'll be easier to protect under netting! It'll be a tedious job trying to cover them one by one if you have them dotted over. In my experience, companion planting doesn't help much with the cabbage whites, they find them wherever they are!

  21. Hi Kerry…πŸ€— I had watched the video on Thursday morning, but did not have time to comment, between getting back from Birmingham, and then prepping for the storm etc yesterday was stressful πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’« Back in the office today, no power or water at home, so I might as well be here and catch up πŸ˜‰πŸ€«πŸ˜€
The fruit tree guild will look stunning between the other beds, with the flowers mixed in, will bring plenty of colour to the space 😍
Dorie sitting ant watching you and chillies πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚…very nifty being able to stack layers of tubs into the propagator πŸ‘Œ
Jees, your poor cousin not only is helping you with physical chores around the plot, but she is actually giving her clothes off her back for you, too 🀣🀣🀣🀣
