Hi everyone,
I just got a backyard remodel including new dirt and new grass. I wanna do everything I can to keep this grass super healthy and green, this is my first lawn so trying to learn everything I can. The grass is called Marathon II and species include Dwarf Tall Fescue and Festuca Arundinacea (believe this is mostly found in Southern California, which is where I’m located).
As you can see in the pictures, there’s a brown spot in the grass and I’m not sure what to do to fix this. My dogs have a separate yard, and aren’t allowed on this grass so I can rule out pee burns. The grass was installed in Mid December 2024 so it’s been about 6 weeks now. I’ve tapered back to watering to about 15 minutes every 3 days (since we have cooler temps right now but will give more water when it warms up). I have not applied any fertilizer yet, do I need to? I’ve only mowed twice but am on a weekly or bi weekly schedule depending on how much it’s grown. And that’s all I’ve done. There’s also A TON of gnat looking bugs flying all over the lawn.
Any help with water schedule, fertilizer, pesticides, aeration, weed killer, etc would be greatly appreciated and super helpful. Thank you!
