If it were me I would spray a full spectrum broadleaf weed herbicide. I would wait for it to die back and then clean out the dead material and mulch/compost the lawn to prep it for the growing season. The best way to prevent weeds from coming up is to have a healthy lawn that outcompetes the weeds and does not give them an opportunity to take hold.

‼️Please don’t use those nasty 🤢 herbicides – very dangerous for you and the environment not to mention pets and children. I have just pulled out and keep it back, it’s a ground cover that grows fast in spring and summer but fairly easy to control if it is restrained.
