With a special thanks to Gravetye Manor for allowing me to film their incredible garden, and to head gardener Tom Coward for his time: https://www.gravetyemanor.co.uk/ – what a stunning walled kitchen garden this is!

  1. Fascinating display of what a few square feet of properly set up ground can produce if managed deliberately. 👌🏼✨

  2. 5:55 to 6,11: ''We don't restrict ourselves to heritage varieties…''
Brilliant! Many of Britain's greatest historical gardens that were great because they were radical, fresh and innovative, are now stuck in dusty, outdated museum mode. Dying apple trees get replaced with the same old stale heritage varieties that have zero disease resistance.

  3. Watching this was my Wow moment for the week. I'm not sure what the larger treat was: viewing the magnificent garden or listening to Mr. Coward.
Now I'm going to fritter away a big chunk of the day re-watching The Victorian Kitchen Garden and planning for spring. 😂

  4. What fascinating thought and engineering to consider drainage to capture and protect from the flow of the air like that, just as if it were liquid! I had never realized garden walls could serve much purpose beyond holding warmth that was already there (apart, of course, from supporting espaliers and vines and such). But then, I am a flatlander born and bred, so the weather physics of valleys and hillsides simply aren't in my experience.

Mr. Coward speaks well, too; what a treat this interview is!

  5. Huw, thanks for sharing this garden with us. It's a piece of art quite honestly and I enjoyed listening to Mr. Coward. What an honor to be the custodian of such a garden. (Kentucky, USA)

  6. A beautiful garden! Brings back a lot of memories when I was stationed with the military in England, near Oxford, in the late 1960's. I loved visiting the beautiful estates and gardens, and seeing all of the different plans and processes used.

  7. Great video!!!! I LOVE this gentleman's perspective and really appreciate his depth of knowledge of the historic and present importance of gardening and growing. Delightful to watch and listen to. Im still learning!❤❤❤❤
