I'm sure a lot of you saw my post yesterday asking for assistance in clearing this bamboo. I took a lot of your advice (aside from moving 😂) and just decided to grunt it.
I purchased a crow bar and a hatchet and went to work. As I dug lower, to my surprise, the bamboo were in pots! Buried deep beneath the surface I found 4 pot lips, and this allowed me to pry around, cut through the dense roots that had escaped the pots, remove the pots and clear the roots! Having not done much laborious work, this almost destroyed me. The 3rd pot was particularly difficult and I considered giving up multiple times.
My current plan is to scour the soil for any obvious large roots and clear them out. Next I will add new soil, add water but plant nothing for 2 months. My plan is to see if any new bamboo shoots up, and in which case, kill it. If after 2 months no bamboo appears I will start planting. If anyone has any suggestions please don't hesitate! I am a beginner, and would love any tips or tricks.

First off, I salute you for completing this task! Digging out rooted plants like this is a nasty job. I also salute the previous property owner for trying to keep the bamboo from spreading. They didn’t succeed as well as they thought they did, but it was a valiant effort.
When (not if) the hidden roots that escaped you sprout again, let the shoots get about 2 to 3 feet tall and then spray them with glyphosate (the old Roundup). Continue doing this as new shoots resprout. You should be able to get this completely killed by the end of next season.
Wow those pots feel like a blessing in disguise
Jesus how heavy was that pot to pull out of the ground???
