In this video I make traditional Japanese siding as the first stage of the renovation of the garden area outside our bedroom and bathroom windows. I’m planning to create a traditional Japanese courtyard garden (tsuboniwa).

Last week SBS Oz posted your interview again. Had to watch, as that is the only way we'd ever see your wife's face 🙂 She's a pretty strong person lifting that siding you assembled! Great job!
I appreciate the peaceful productivity of your videos. While I am sure you have moments of frustration, it's nice that you focus on the overall project moving forward. Relaxing and satisfying to watch!
Was nice to see a glimpse on momma Llama. Enjoying watching your journey!
Jaya, once again, your work is amazing. Looking forward to your next video.
Well done !
I love your video's! ❤️. You and Your Family are doing incredible job! Each finished section/project looks amazing. Your videos are also very informative. I like to observe the proccess, I learn a lot from watching you. I will wait for new video hopefully soon, although I am aware everything needs time.
You inspired me to want to move to Japan and retire one day in a nice old renovated house like yours. I live in Japan now and I got married to a Japanese woman. She needs to warm up more to the idea of an Akiya and the country side 😅
long time no see. thank you for the updates! we are also in rainy season for 2 months now and multiple Low Pressure area and not Typhoons pass us by. hope there is not a lot of puddles or flooding there.
❤❤❤
Wow, your grass seems like a golf course…! In next door Chiba, I have trouble keeping it nice, seems every year something happens. This year I got brown patches for some reason, even using a fungal killing powder didn't help. Any maintenance tips appreciated. Love your videos, so inspiring!
looks so good!
Do you work on this house full time? I've always wondered but never thought to ask. You're so meticulous, consistent, and hardworking, I assumed this was your main focus.
Beautiful work. I love that you've stayed consistant with house renovations and videos. It's been great following along for years.
Powertools ánd (finger)rings; boy, you love to flirt with danger
Is there a reason for the struts to be placed this way? Or is it just aesthetics, because it does look good, hats off to you!
I have been watching your videos now for a long time and my wife and myself we are about to embark on our own little transform on the house on the side of mountain should I use my question is should I use synthetic are expensive materials this is only a a retired vacation little house for when my wife and myself go to Japan could you make a video on some kind of subject like that😊😅❤
Very well done, mate.
I started watching you in 2020, you’ve come so far from your beginnings. I’m always excited for your videos!
Very intensive, but satisfying work mate. Can't wait to see the completed journey.
I found myself saying at least 3 times aloud "what a wonderful wall!!!" while watching the end result. Amazing!
Your attention to detail is chefkiss
That is absolutely beautiful! The house looks great! It made me laugh to see your wife (7:24) come and inspect your work, making sure the husband was doing a good job! 😂
Amazing! And what a time and effort this took… Wow, hats off to you!
I love your dedication and precision. You have such a masterful touch. It shows in your work I can feel and sense of all the time and heart and sweat you put into your beautiful home, Home sweet home. Thanks again for such an enjoyable video. I've been watching since the beginning.
It’s a treat whenever you post a video
Things are coming along nicely Jaya! Always a good day when you upload a new video. Sorry it took a while to get to it as I am on a road trip to home Yokosuka and back to Iwakuni. Keep them coming!
This is very impressive high quality and professional. A lot of work went into creating that look but in the end it sure paid off. Very surprised to see square-drive screws there in Japan. Greatly enjoyed seeing the entire process.
You didn't replace the insulation, you definitely upgraded it. Packed it in good, and vapor barrier on the whole thing, not just the insulation.
Sasarako look like stair stringers….
I'm curious, what do you do for a living if I may ask?
Looking fantastic ^.^ as an aspiring horticulturist, I'm excited to see more of the garden!!
Hi Jaya. It's great to see you at work again. As usual you are a true craftsman. The siding looks like it has been there for hundreds of years. We are going to Japan in March next year. Fingers crossed. My son and daughter in law and my husband and I are going to look at houses somewhere at a beach near Okayama. My daughter in law has a brother living in the city there. We would like to use it for holidays and for friends both here and in Japan to stay. My son said he will never be able to afford a home in Australia so he may as well buy some real estate in Japan. Our daughter in law will help with the details. There are some lovely homes for sale in the areas out of the cities.
what a thin insulation!
i like the exterior, so beautiful
Saw your dateline video Jaya, you deserve a bit of recognition back here for such a great renovation
Thanks mate for the ideas. Even the dimensions outside my bedroom and ensuite look the same. I've a 130 y.o house in far north coast NSW. 頑張って
Looks amazing man. Your carpentry skills are improving so much and your attention do detail, and perseverance are remarkable. I noticed how you sealed the screws at the top of the frame with silicone to protect against moisture ingress. I don't think I'd have the patience to build complete frames attached from behind like you did. I think I'd only be able to manage laying out the lap boards on the house first and then attaching the batons over the mounting screws with glue and stainless brad nails. Though, I would definitely still go through the effort of notching the batons as you did. It looks much better than the flat batons on the bathroom. Beautiful job!
I love these videos. One question. Have you considered ear protection for long-term hearing protection? Thank you.
Love your content as always!
Man, this is so freaking cool! Also, gotta say, the grass has been kept superbly. A couple of bald spots close to the shop, but otherwise, it looks so smooth!
I remember finding this channel years ago, enjoying the progress of clearing everything out, and then I somehow ended up forgetting all about this channel, until just here today and I’ve been binge watching everything i’ve missed since then. I am loving the hard work and attention to details. Just stunning work. ❤
Thank goodness there wasn't much work involved.
Beautiful work as always!
Another great video 👍👍
Awesome job. Nice working 👍🏻
Interesting that all the cldding boards are on the 'inside' so to speak, with the studs or vertical battens on the outside. The reverse form most Western way !
