  1. You csn actually plant basil lower than they were originally planted and they'll grow more roots. It's how I fix my leggy seedlings.

  2. The problem with basil plants at the store I used to buy them from were mealybugs… never again, I'll just grow them from seeds

  3. Iv found they are usually root boud. So I separate and repot and end up with at least 5 -7 healthy plants. It's a herb that dies withing 2 days if root bound
I've done it myself. Healthy plant one day the next DEAD. It's always a case of repotting.

  4. Thanks for the info. Another problem with these industrial grown basics is that often there are bugs flying around in them. Do you have a tip for treating the Basil once it's at home? TIA.

  5. I just LOVE your sense of humour in your videos! And you learn stuff from your sound garden knowledge. Good on you! A happy YouTube subscriber. All the best Caroline 🌿🌿🌿

  6. 2:30 "When we pull this guy's trousers down and have a look at the roots, we can kind of see the problem more clearly."
Bro plagiarized my ex's diary word for word 💀💀

  7. I hate you, man! Two months ago I was just looking for a way to keep the basil I bought alive for a couple more days than it usually lasts. I found this video, watched it, and the other one you mentioned. Now my balcony is turning into a fucking herb garden. And it is not the most disturbing part. The most disturbing part is that I enjoy that. Never before have I fought about growing plants, but you managed to do that. You turned me into a gardener. A fucking gardener! I hope you're happy!

  8. Thanks for sharing this! Is this what I should so with other herbs that I buy from the nursery, like lemon balm? What about holy basil?

  9. The root overcrowded roots didn’t just become a problem when it went your window sill. Just cut the at the sound and stick them in water above the first node and they’ll stay brilliant green and root in 5 days. Stick them in soil and you’re good to go.

He says basel…isnt that austin powers boss?

  10. I replanted mine immediately under my tomato plants in my poly tunnel without thinning – 68 pence lasting all year – less pests & amazing scented poly tunnel🙂

  11. Just wanted to thank you for all your valuable tips. I tried growing basil for a few years now, and it eventually dies on me. I followed your tips on dividing the store bought basil plus I cropped it and grew more in water filled jars and in a few months I have two large pots brining over with basil all very healthy. Also I followed your tips on when and where to trim the basil plant, and that has also contributed to bushy wide propagating plants. I harvest about every two weeks and I either oven dry the basil or turn it into pesto. I have a large mason jar filled with dried basil. Your wise advice has made all the difference in my basil growing success. Thank you again I am very grateful I stumbled upon your channel.

  12. Chop the roots at the bottom, soak the pot in water, separate the plants including the seedlings and replant separately in a compost and soil bed large enough to contain all the plants and provide enough nutrients to all the plants equally.
Cove the bed with a small green house or place the bed in a shed in your garden or in your balcony if you do not have a garden. And if you have a double glazing room extention, then you are sorted.

  13. Thank you, The mystery is solved. I used to think because the supplier grew them under fluorescent lighting? Now, I will do this next time I buy one. MountainAngel USA

  14. My mom bought a single basil plant because she couldn't find fresh basil leaves in the store(for cooking). All they had was a single pot with a single stem of basil plants that had a dozen or so big leaves on it. I had a collection of potted plants and offered to make this little basil plant part of my collection. I planted the basil in a pot, it went through a bit of transplant shock and the summer heat was a bit much for it so I put it in between two of my bigger plants to give it a little shade. Now the basil is up to my elbow. Mom doesn't need to go for basil at the store anymore.

  15. My basil grew into a monster in less than two months after buying it; I've re-homed it into a larger pot three times whenever it got rootbound (even now in its 12-inch pot). I plan to replant it near my garden but it will have to wait due to winter coming. I might have to re-watch your video on how to prune roots.

Unfortunately, I've made the novice mistake of letting the basil bolt several times by not pruning it enough; it is currently leggy and woody. I have been clipping off its flower bunches and more recently started pruning it. I'm now hoping to start over (not literally) with a new cutting (the rest will be used).
