Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland, Australia, about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online, so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. That’s funny… Ginger makes me nauseous. The stuff they make you take for a colonoscopy is a ginger flavored and I have to chew peppermint gum to quell the nausea.

  2. If you've been drinking and you feel like you're going to throw up just chew on an ice cube. I bet it works for other times as well. Give it a shot!

  3. I prefer ginger to treat nausea or upset stomach compared to mints like spearmint or peppermint. I like ginger candy called Gin Gins. I have given Gin Gins to someone who suffers from car sickness, and it helped

  4. What about freeze drying it to make a powder to put in capsules to take for nausea or sea sickness? I get sea sick & have an up coming trip with my husband & friend in November.

  5. Candied ginger – I eat some before I get on the boat. Then more if I start getting queasy later. I’ve used it for upset stomach at home (maybe from eating food tha disagreed with me). I would generally drink a nonalcoholic ginger beer (in the states) as versus ginger ale, they tend to have more ginger in them (if you don’t have the opportunity to make your own).

  6. always had ginger beer for my kids when little as they kept getting car sick, worked every time
i prefer to use it instead of medication, there are many natural products on the market now so plenty to choose from
    thanx for sharing

  7. I used to work at a hospital where they served ginger soup for post op nausea. It worked a treat.
My grandmother used to eat glacé ginger, although I don’t know if this would be any good.

  8. I watched this video last Sunday. Today is Wednesday. Last night, my wife got sick, and totally nauseated, and then some! So, I drove to the store, bought some ginger root, and made a tea out of some of it. Talk about a miraculous cure! Thank you so much! I wish I could double subscribe to your channel!

  9. For upset stomachs, we've always just grabbed a can of Kirks lemonade, does wonders for dealing with it.

  10. Mark have you thought of making any home fermented ginger products? Also do you think I would have. Shot at growing ginger in the states zone 6b, Pittsburgh Pa. We get pretty cold in the winter, down to sub zero. Great video. Noah……

  11. I love ginger! I have trouble growing it but won't give up yet. My best ginger story: a few years back, a gal at the office was having awful morning sickness. I asked if she wanted some ginger candy (really strong ginger chews) and she was miserable enough she said she'd try them. She came back to me later and said the ginger worked better than the stuff her doctor prescribed her!

  12. Ginger tea got me through levothyroxin poisoning. The only thing that stopped 12ish hours of vomiting/retching.

  13. Grow your own ginger because the ginger from other countries when tested had heavy metals in it. Ginger pretty much takes care of itself, you only need to water through drought conditions.

  14. Love Kate, she’s a real bonus to your channel, your dog is as beautiful and entertaining as ever, excellent as always Mark. Best wishes to you and your family, from Britain 👍👍🇦🇺🇬🇧🇦🇺🇬🇧
