Well my nasturtiums have had a good run, over the last couple of days their leaves are ravaged by these caterpillars, does anyone know what caterpillar these are? I don’t mind as I love butterflies and moths anyway

Thanks

Cabbage butterfly caterpillars (I think) have loads of leaves eaten by them, but I find nasturtium will usually grow new leaves fast and still bloom. They’re great sacrificial plants. It’s aphids that completely destroy them and other plants though.

I’m glad you’re letting carry on. Thank you.

Thanks, yeah I don’t mind at all, butterflies have had a poor year this year, nasturtiums are easy to grow, another lesson learned 😀

Not great with caterpillar I.D but, I’ll go out on a limb and say cabbage whites.

Fun story. Our next door neighbours little boy was absolutely terrified of insects and bugs. We had a jungle of Nasturtiums 3 years ago when he was 2 and the caterpillars were everywhere.

He discovered one crawling up the wall in his garden and was absolutely fascinated.

Fast forward to fourth birthday. I bought him a bug hunting kit, a butterfly house for his caterpillars and a huge cockroach in resin. I’m the best honorary Granda ever!

My kid was upset the other day because they found one in school and one of them squashed it. Fast forward to today I found one by chance in the garden, brought it in to my two kids, both were fascinated by it.. somehow it was placed back in some flowers unscathed and slightly relieved I imagine.
