  1. I planted zucchini about 5 weeks ago and kept them under wire baskets until they got too tall. Since I have taken the baskets off either deer or rabbits have eaten all the leaves, not any stems, just the leaves. Will the plants still produce fruit and survive without the leaves? They are blooming now, but still only male blossoms.

  2. I am giving a try now for the first time, it seems to be doing good so far. The bug i have problems with tho, looks like a stink bug. Old timers do say timing is everything.

  3. Just watched this with my husband. We decided we are NOT growing zucchini anymore after losing all but one plant this summer thanks to pests๐Ÿ˜ข
BUT now after watching you we are excited to try this. Planned planting this weekend. Hope all goes well. Thank you.

  4. I will be planting my fifth round of zucchini simply trying to get a few squash! Every single plant has been estimated by SBV and squash bugs. I started just after nighttime temps were above 50 and my last plant I just pulled up because of SVB. I actually think it will be worth my time to put netting over the plants and hand pollinate just so I can eat my favorite low-carb veg in the summer and not rely on the local farmers market for my zucchini "fix"!

  5. Not. Sept is max bloom of ALL squash & ground fruit. First freeze is usually at the end of the month.

  6. MI Gardener greens are never boring folks. They have greens that are so beautiful and tasty. I have so many different ones and I love them all. Have a salad every day since they are powerhouses of nutrition.

  7. If you slice zucchini thin, you can soak them in pineapple juice and dehydrate them. They are reminiscent of fruit leather.

  8. I never thought about growing zucchini in the fall. I am definitely going to do this asap. I have so many problems with squash bugs and the plants rotting from the damage.

  9. I did fall zucchini last year and didnt see a single squash bug and i almost cried lol! We get squash bugs so bad in the spring we never even see any fruit. Fall zucchini for the win!

  10. We just made a batch of zucchini relish. What a treat. Also I have new zucchini starts up here in Vermont. They usually produce well. Bob

  11. Dude, I got the cucuzzi squash and trellising it in a mad max kind of cage, I have 35 and counting. This crop alone will feed a village for months. Thank you ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

  12. Stay on top of squash beetles! A few minutes of maintenance each day can make all the difference.

  13. I decided to plant some more Zucchini and collards 2 weeks ago because the squash bugs and powdery mildew got me this year. I also didn't have as many pollinators as I had last year. I did buy some netting for it next year. When you know better you do better. Thanks Luke!!

Any idea how we can preserve Zucchini??

  14. I have had zucchini romanesco go through a frost. I have also had this particular variety get torn up by squash vine borer every year, and it still grows like a monster. I even accidentally severed by zucchini romanesco main vine with a shovel and it kept growing and producing with only a thread of a vine. This is an excellent variety!

  15. I am going to try and see if I have time to get zucchini. Have already planted green bean, peas, lettuce, and some cabbage for fall.

  16. Hello! Im currently growing strawberries in a raised bed, i need to add more soil to the plants, but don't want to burry the crown. If i add soil on top of the plants when they go dormant for the winter, would they be able to grow through that new layer of soil (1-2 inches)? Or do i need to uproot my strawberries to add more soil?

  17. I started planting zucchini last fall because of a video you had put out. Loved it! I grew it vertically this season and love that as well

  18. I live in South Africa. The best time for us winter. The only problem is there are no pollinators so we have to pollinate by hand ๐Ÿ˜Š

  19. I've not had squash bugs this summer. Weird. We did have vine borers which decimated our squash. I have zucchini planted for fall and it is doing well. By the way, that kale behind you is show-stopping!

  20. I love zucchini and tried it over the summer. My problem was not getting many female flowers, my plants were putting out male flowers like crazy. I kind of give up on them.

  21. I absolutely love zucchini, but I have the worst luck with SVB's every year! This year is the first year that I am actually trying a fall garden, succession planting zucchini until the SVB is no longer around. August wasn't the month, maybe September will be…*fingers crossed*

  22. This is the first year I planted a later crop of zucchini, which was right after my garlic harvest. I was amazed at the fact that I had no squash bug problems this year at all! I will do this from now on, and maybe try planting even later!
