I bought this alocasia from trader joes 10 days ago and this is my second one. I followed advice to repot it (I did it the next day after buying it). Its soil came already watered, so I have only been misting it when I see the top is dry. I kept it in indirect light because I noticed that if I keep it in direct light the leaves get crispy. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong, the smaller leaves are turning red brown and drooping. I see there’s new growth so I’m assuming it’s ok right now but I don’t want to wait until it’s all dying like my last alocasia.

Only water this plant (thoroughly, until water comes out) when the top-two-inches of soil is dry. I would discontinue misting as it disrupts this process. Additionally, alocasias really need diluted fertilizer every watering, they’re very hungry. Additionally, it looks like an Alocasia Polly but I can’t really see the leaf shape very well, this is a harder Alocasia. It’s a hybrid plant. Do not feel bad if you kill it, but I have faith you’ll keep it alive. Also, is the mix it’s in very very chunky? (Containing soil, lots of orchid bark, maybe leca, possibly sand, lots of perlite). Also, alocasias can die down to their form and still be alive. As long as that corm (a little bulb-like rhizome) Is still firm, it should germinate again. Good luck, and feel free to reach out if you need more help.
