Growing perennials in pots can be an exciting way of creating a mini border in a small space. This is ideal for small gardens and balcony gardens but also makes a great addition to an established garden too. We have selected plants that flower during the summer months and are best grown in full sun.

In this video we describe our planting scheme for a rectangle container measuring 59x24x24 cm.

The plants included are listed below;
Monarda ‘Scorpion’
Achillea (unknown pink variety)
Perovskia atriplicifolia ‘Little Spire’
Stipa tenuissima
Allium ‘Serendipity’

  1. Hi Paul ! this monarda variety seems huge compared to the one I have ! But that height makes its flowers more visible.
    Question regarding this type of alliums: it's my first year growing milleniums and my question is: what do you do with the spent blooms ? If you cut them does it encourage more flowers ? Or do you leave them for winter interest ? Also your serendipity variety has a nice pink hue to it.
    Where are you gonna place this container ? Just being curious 😜😇

  2. You're right Paul, the Monarda does remind us of Fraggle Rock. Your container is very calming. I was in my garden for most of the day yesterday and the summer bedding is starting to look tired. I had to pull out the Mesembryanthemums which don't last that long anyway, and the hanging baskets are way past their best too but I'm clinging on for another couple of weeks with those. They don't seem to have liked these cooler evenings. I even had to put the lights on in the house as it was getting dark by 8.30p.m. Have you and Andrew ever been to Woolerton Old Hall? I've just found out that it's in Shropshire. Now that I've "done" David Austin's place I'd like to go there. We're supposed to be going back to Shropshire for another holiday next year so something to look forward to. Thanks for the video and take care. xxx
