What have I done. I went to a Ramada hotel for a conference. I was so sad to see all their plants being neglected- and I proplifted with my partner in crime who supports my inability to stop trying to save plants by proplifting. I know. I’m in recovery.
I followed all the suggestions; clean scissors, and gave it plant food in its water vase. Initially I had let it dry for about an hour after watching several videos with some saying let it dry for 24-48hrs before putting it in water. Once I noticed the leaves turning a lighter colour I immediately put it in water but by then I noticed the air root had also changed colour.
Did I just lift a baby to kill it slowly? I’m not sure I could forgive myself. Im a nurse on medical leave tending to plants but this is my second lifting. My first was a peace lily from my chiropractor’s office … thriving!
Help me save this beautiful plant!

Following, got a similar situation. Propped 3, all from the same mother plant and all handled the same, only 1 is rooting
Stealing a top cutting from a monstera is the few things that you really shouldn’t do because the mother plant’s growth will revert to juvenile state. This is not a pothos that you can just snip a section and nobody’s hurt. Also the plant only looks thirsty far from death.
Idk if it’s the best thing to do, but personally, I’d probably snip off the rotted root and dry it out completely. Dont worry if the leaves get a little wilty as it dries, it just needs to dry out for a day or two. I’ve propped a few plants that had wilting leaves, and once you have good root development and at least one leaf to replace it emerging, you can cut the wilting guy. I’d wait until it fully emerged and is beginning to callus for this one. If the root rot hasn’t gone up too far towards the node, you might be able to save it. I change my water about once a week and use HB-101 until I get them in soil, but I’ve heard gentle fertilizers are fine. Rooting hormone might also help if you wanna increase the odds, but I’ve had mixed results, so I hardly use it anymore. And dont stress. Some props are just finicky, and it very well could have had problems before you even grabbed it. Good luck. Again, just what I’d do, I’m no expert, just someone who loves shoving props into random media to see if I can save it.
who the fuck suggests giving fertilizer to propagations lmao?! 😂 it’s probably burned
also you straight up just stole so…🤷♂️ Karma I guess
