  1. great video. The rose trellis is looking so nice. You can put lights on at Christmas. I'm a big fan of fish fertilizer. works for Monty Don in UK. Your roses along the back barn are doing so well. Will be a real feature when it grows in. Nice job.

  2. The red bud is beautiful!! I bought a Rising Sun Dogwood after I saw yours. Matt, be careful with nandinas. They can be quite invasive. At least they are
here in southern Il. We pulled a few out of our landscape but the runners kept coming out everywhere. Thanks for tour. See you next time.

  3. What a beautiful Redbud! I love those trees. I have an regular old Eastern Redbud and a Ruby Falls. Not much more space to plant any other trees. I am loving your progress, as usual, and can't wait to see what you get for your shrub border. Oh, Matthew, when are you going to get into Bonsai? (LOL)

  4. I love that redbud and the swing idea. I can’t wait for cooler weather. We are tired of sweating down here in the south. 😂

  5. I love the Bailey' shrub border you showed. I have some ninebarks from them 'Little Devil' and they get powdery mildew even with a lot of space between them. I'd be afraid to plant them as close as they show in the border garden. Thoughts?

  6. Great work with the bones! That is what I need to work on building here. I appreciate your information packed videos!❤

  7. Hi Matthew! Your roses by the house will be so pretty on that beautiful trellis. I'm looking forward to seeing the climbers by the barn on the trellis system you're planning. They are beautiful roses. I'm looking forward to seeing all of the shrubs you will be getting, and your new plans for that border, too. I'm glad you're keeping the swing set. I would, too. The plans you have for that area will be really nice. Thank you so much for sharing!

  8. It’s not just the heat in the southwest – it’s the lack of humidity and scarcity of water. For example, where I am in Colorado (the Front Range, a transitional zone between the mountains and the Great Plains), we are in zone 5b/6a and we expect between 13-20” total precipitation a year, with most years about 15-16”. We also have high altitude and that changes what grows and thrives here as we get more intense UV rays. We depend on mountain runoff for a lot of our water, but so does every state between here and Southern California.

I would never be crazy enough to try and plant hydrangeas here – they would suffer. My neighbor, who grew up in Indiana and has no love of gardening, planted four hydrangea this spring and all of them are suffering despite her daily watering. They haven’t put on any growth or blooms, and I doubt they will survive our sunny, dry winter. So I watch all of you east of us and enjoy your hydrangeas.

What works for me are sedums and plants native to the region. I have given up on planting in ground annuals. I can keep them alive in containers but not in ground.

  9. Hi Matthew. I love that you’re keeping the swing set!! I had a swing like that, growing up. Def brings back good memories ❤
    Love your videos 😊

  10. I'm in Columbus, and it has been bone dry. I wanted to cry when I got my water bill, so you are lucky, especially with all your new plants. I have a rising sun redbud, which I love, but the big branches keep dying out. I am not sure what is causing this, but I suspect I won't have it much longer. It does grow new branches, though. This keeps it from growing very big.

  11. Love your plans for the “swing set bed.” It will make this area a feature in your landscape rather than merely a more functional space as a convenient place to put the swings – very creative 🌳🌸🌲.

  12. I'm looking forward to seeing you develop the shrub border. I'm interested in doing something like that too and get overwhelmed with all the choices. I'm really enjoying your channel.

  13. Love how the beds are taking shape. I too am beefing up some beds with lots of shrubs and perennials. We also need to replace trees taken down from storms. Excited to see you trial some zone 7 plants! I’m zone 5 but would like to do the same with some zone 6.

  14. Beautiful gardens! And your ideas and goals are exciting!! You’ve come a long way baby in your garden designs and implementations!! 👏🏼 ❤

  15. My little limes are getting yellow at the bottom leaves…last year a little holly tone did the trick…is it too late in the season to add the fertilizer?

  16. Weather is beautiful and I have so many things to get done outside. I have run out of motivation. How are you still going after all the beautiful work you have done this season?

  17. Love the idea of keeping the swing set ,it’s such a well made swing ,do pretty actually,I’m glad yoj ard nog getting rid of it !
