  1. The old seed content is seriously my favorite content of yours, and I am saying that as someone who loves all of your content!

  2. I also use washed takeout containers with damp paper towels to germinate most of my seeds. Since we still have an old fashioned gas oven, I place them in the heat of the pilot light, which works just as well as a heating mat for germination.

  3. And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
    John 6:35 KJV

  4. I was actually thinking about seed banks the other day, and so I was super interested to see how this worked.

I would love it if you would talk to some seed banks and ask them about viability, and how they do their seed "archiving". Do they just save a lot and hope that some stay viable? Do they freeze dry, freeze? As someone that wants to save his own seeds I would love to learn more about the process. I know this may not be the focus of your channel, but I thought I'd ask!!! Thank you!!!

  5. had sweet 100 cherry tomato seeds from the mid 70's along with ROMA tomato seeds. Yes genetic drift is unavoidable. Sweet 100 from the 70's were much superior to the sweet 100 today. ROMA didn't change too much. Today's sweet 100 were smaller and more acidic, not as sweet.
yes it would be interesting if Valiant from the 70's is better than today' valiant.

  6. A friend of mines found some seeds from his aunt's basement (she was 90ish yrs old) that he gave to me They were from 1985 I think. I have collards, giant curled mustards, black beauty squash, sweet snap peas, bush crop cucumbers, royal chantenay carrots, calabrese broccoli, Clemson okra, great lakes lettuce, purple top turnips, summer squash, scarlet globe radish, Copenhagen cabbage, tender green beans, Detroit red beats… I'll been sprouting some of the fall crops this year I can't wait

  7. The best cucumbers I ever grew came from a packet of seeds that was over 8 years old. I threw the rest of the pack, about 8 seeds and 6 of them sprouted and did phenomenal!! I had too many cukes that year because I didn't think much would sprout and planting 4 other plants. Now I know better. I will never throw out my seeds!

  8. Because you opened the sealed container are the remaining seeds going to experience further loss of germination for your next experiment?

  9. I can't wait for next year, it will be so exciting to see the comparison. I love your channel and all the useful and reliable information you provide. May God bless you and your family.

  10. I really love your vids but the jump cuts in this were painful for my eyes. It’s. Ok to make mistakes (if there were any) in filming and leave them in too. It was a jump cut every other word and your eyes have to reduce as the screen changes.😢 I was excited but could watch the rest.

  11. Luke! Never give up on old seeds! That includes the onions! So awesome to see the tomatoes sprouting! Please give the onions a try. Many Blessings to you from Deborah in West Virginia!

  12. Thats so cool! Very interested to see the difference when you do the comparison. Especially wondering about the acidity levels since even canning recipes have changed several times over the years because most varieties now are considered to not be acidic enough. Fingers crossed that they thrive and hopeful that youll keep trying even if this batch doesnt!

  13. Couldn't resist- I was guessing around 15% germination. sounds like you may have a lot better. Really interested to see what comes up next year with the comparison. I felt the germination rate would probably be pretty good since they were in a sealed metal container and from its condition was most likely sitting in somebody's basement all these years, staying cool.

  14. Not me thinking and saying "70's….so, 30ish years old" 😂 Mind you, I was born in 1986, and am 38 myself so LOL. For me, 2000's is the date marker, it seems. Anything before that is X and anything after, is added LOL.

  15. The fall grow will be interesting to see how the plants do. It will be even neater next year to do the comparison. Btw, I saved around three tablespoons of the Crimson Giant last year.

  16. As someone of almost the same vintage as those Tomato seeds cough I was suspecting 20+ seeds to germinate. Looks like more were going to which makes for an exciting time. Can only imagine what they will taste like next season…but what about the onions?
