Been renting this house for 5 years and only just now noticed the the maple in my backyard is variegated lol. (Wanted to check if it is indeed variegation and not like some virus or something before I spend the time propagating)

Hey that’s actually so beautiful. Are all of its leaves variegated?

Would you be willing to ship/sell some props? I’d LOVE (and would pay) to have some cuttings!

  3. LovelandFroggery

Whoa! Those are gorgeous. I would also love props if you are selling!

You’ve got something special there. I’d get both some seedlings and some cuttings going to see what you can get going.

When we were in Ontario on holiday earlier this year, we saw a tree like that at a park on Lake Ontario. So pretty! This tree appeared to only have the variegated leaves until about half way up. We thought maybe someone had grafted it onto another tree? No idea. Either way, beautiful tree.

Are there little saplings around the yard? Tiny ones that get run over by the lawnmower?

We have a red maple in our front yard and every year we have little volunteers. I pot them up. I don’t know enough to know if they’ll end up exactly like the parent plant. All I know is free, pretty tree!

This is exactly what my Virginia creeper looks like. But I’m almost positive they don’t grow into a huge tree. So cool! I wonder what makes the maple leaves do that.

didn’t know this was possible!! what a gorgeous tree. someone needs to bonsai this

  8. Hindsight, I should’ve been prepared for the loads of requests for props considering the sub I posted in lol.

I’ve never shipped cuttings before, so I’m not sure at what stage would be the best to ship. I assume doing an airlayer and then shipping with a good chunk of root would be the optimal choice?

Omg! I want it so bad for my bonsai collection!!

Just planted on of those on my property, it’s a Simon louis freres sycamore.

Absolutely STUNNING 🤩 and yes that’s variegation!! It’s pretty minty in places and albo in others! Love it!!

Honestly if you manage to get lots of cuttings – add me to the buyer list. Also if this drops seeds in the spring I will 100% buy some of those. Even if 1/100 are also variegated maples germinate so easily.

Wow that’s beautiful! Never seen anything like it

This tree is about to pay your rent for months to come!

  15. Acer pseudoplatanus ‘Leopoldii’. A variegated form of the European Sycamore Maple 🍁.

Wouldn’t a variegated maple tree need to be grown from seeds? I don’t know how effective it is to propagate from cuttings.

I’m not usually a fan of verigated plants, but this one is actually legit beautiful. Not as…harsh???..as other varigations, like it’s literally a sun dappled forest on every leaf. Very cool.

Definitely would love to get one, that’s gorgeous
