  1. Yall do me a favor and don't mention to my broccoli and cauliflower this winter that I forgot to mention them. I like them both a lot, I'm just forgetful.

  2. I like your list and copied it down. Saves alot of time trying varieties.
I try to start or transplant about Sept 15. Here's a few you didn't mention. Many do not harvest until Spring.
    Minowase daikon radish
    Green onion clumps
    Potatoes – plant after Christmas
Beets, early Wonder for Jan greens
    Fennel
    Cilantro
    Parsley transplants for soups
    Collards
    Swiss Chard, particularly yellow
    Bok choy, another early green

  3. Hey Jess I just got some really cool Okinawa Pink Okra seeds from Mary's Heirloom Seeds and they sent me free Collard Green seeds! I planted zipper cream peas but they didn't grow but they are my favorite. Butter lettuce for the win with us. We are hot chile people as my husband is from Mexico but I am from Memphis with Mississippi roots lol. We need a farmers market here in Irving TX. God bless your family Jess and again: Love your Mom and her garden!!! She's more my speed lol.

  4. I have many things you mentioned in my fall garden. I am also making one more run at some fresh summer squash and slicer cucumbers that I may get out by first frost in 6b.🧑‍🌾🤞

  5. I love this list!! And the descriptions to go with them. But I have a question about your greenstalk with the strawberries in the background…My greenstalk looks the same. Should I trim the dead leaves or just leave them?

  6. I may have to try growing some of the root veggies you mentioned. I'm almost 60 & have never eaten a turnip, fresh beet, brussel sprouts or rutabaga. I remember my mom stinking up the house when I was young with brussel sprouts, so I never gave them a try into adulthood. LOL

  7. It seems like to me that a lot of people confuse the fall garden and the winter garden. The fall garden is still warm out so is basically just a second round of spring stuff- cucumbers, beans, summer squash, determinate tomatoes, etc. Then the winter garden is when it’s getting colder so is the cool weather stuff like greens, carrots, radishes, beets, etc. If you try to plant winter stuff like lettuce or arugula etc. in fall it’s just going to bolt because it’s still way too hot. At least that’s how it is here in Texas.

  8. Grew Red Acre and Green Acre cabbage for the first time this year. I am ruined for store bought cabbages. They are amazing. We have very short days in the winter but I am going to try to keep some lettuces and kale going in the greenhouse this year. I am also going to squeeze in another round of calabrese broccoli before the deep freezes start in late Oct.

  9. OMGosh… Bulls Blood beets sliced into 1/2" rounds and pan fried in butter… CHEFS KISS. Also, fermented Golden Beets!!! I look forward to them every year!

  10. Love all these 😊 I need to go through my seeds and see what I can still plant. And then clear out some space from my weedy mess of a garden. 🥴

  11. When do you have the most luck planting snap peas from seed? I didn't have luck last year but I don't think I planted early enough

  12. I'd like to grow bok choy, onions, leeks. Chinese cabbage & mushrooms.

In spring I'd like to grow salad greens. I've had great luck with butternut squash.

Best tasting Butternuts I've ever had grew in my compost pile, so were a total gift. There were 29 perfect, with a deep reddish meat inside. I think the color was due to them growing in pure compost.

  13. I have two Greenstalk planters and I have tried to use one to grow various lettuce greens in. Not having much luck. I am frustrated with it and not sure what to do different.
