August is the best month to start growing these 15 crops and vegetables in your garden. You can direct sow all of these seeds in your garden for all zones. You might think it might be too hot to grow some vegetables in August such as potatoes, broccoli, kale, and swiss chard, however, by the time these vegetables start to grow, it will be September and October and weather will be cooler and perfect for these vegetables. Have fun gardening!

  1. Thank you so much you make us better gardeners you give us knowledge step-by-step and I love that. Thank you so much and may God bless you.!😊

  2. I am in Zone 6b and the first frost date is Sept 21-Sept 30, so I don't think I can plant broccoli, even at the beginning of August here, if it takes 3 months fo harvest, can I? I'll only have q month 20 days to 2 months before first frost. Or will broccoli survive frost?

  3. Xin chào bạn lời chào từ Vietnam, bạn chia sẻ video rất tuyệt vời tôi là người phụ nữ 45 tuổi ở Vietnam tôi rất thích xem video bạn chia sẻ

  4. Zones changed this year. I am watching the weather. Early spring= early fall. I have seen leaves falling already and I’m in Sacramento, Ca. Weather is definitely changing. 31 days out of 56 so far of over 100+ degrees. New record.

  5. Hello Jag I have some good news, and I have some bad news! 😞Good news is I was able to make vine cuttings grow roots using your method with more than 95% success, however, I couldn't make fig cuttings put any new roots and it was really sad 😞Literally none of them put new roots I dont know why 😞

  6. I'm in the south of the UK so we have mild weather with occasional hard frosts and snow in winter and heatwaves in summer. No idea what zone that would equate to, since we don't use them.

  7. Another great video, thanks, Jag. Really appreciate how you link your previous videos to the current one. Your soil looks absolutely amazing, well done. I'm in SW France and I find the US zones very confusing – can't figure out which one we equate to. There's a French practice which dates from way back, where people don't plant out until after Les Saints de Glace {the ice saints} in mid-May, when the last frost was usually seen.

  8. Hi Jag,
This is Paul from Sicily (Italy).
To Answer your question about following the zones, I can't follow that. Instead I'm looking at the forecast's and temperatures. Where I'm at the weather is actually very predictable, it's hot with entire month's without any Rain at all. But the humidity levels are above 60% during most part of the night which creates a lot of droplets on the leaves and also on my roofs. You can immagine how much this helps with water collection generally. So, every crop I want to grow I need to wait for the right temperatures window. If I miss that window it's no big deal cause it does get cold but not enough to ruin the crops. In case I can always cover with some poly sheets or fabrics.
As an example, last year I was able to grow Zucchini all years long and now I got tired of Zucchini 😀
Greetings and keep up the great work!

  9. I have question I make. Compost myself I have enough brown but I don’t have enough green sources (nietrogen) can I use coffee powder instead of coffee ground ??🙏

  10. Hi Jag , i checked Google to fine out my zone .😊 i am from the Caribbean so i am in zone 11 ..yes it hot and humid all throughout the year . We have the hot season from Jan to Jun .then the rainy season frim July to Dec ..hope that you can share some info on what to plant in this zone .Thanks

  11. Hi Jag.
I recently watched you video on how to grow sweet potato sprouts but you didn’t do the follow up you said you would. I was wondering if you could do a refresher or something to that effect. I really love your videos and I’ve been trying to grow my garden I am struggling a little with my robot peppers and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  12. My broccoli plants got dry in May and June of Zone 10 and didn't give florets. Now after Monsoon in Late July, the plants are greening and growing again. The plants are almost 7 month old. Temperature is now 32°C with high humidity. Can they grow florets now?

  13. In Estonia, we plant our potatoes, in the beginning of may- this was my first time to plant anything, I harvested them last week, altho other people still have a month or so to go, according to the plants, ..and now I am intriqued to try to plant them again in august,.. let see what comes out of that, cause 1. I wanted them for the winter anyway and 2. aug-oct we have the degrees you talked about it the video, only not so many sunny days than in summer time. Overall I found your account beginning of the year when I wanted to start growing my own food, you are the most legit and detailed person to teach here I have found, thank you.. next year I am planning to double my field size cause I want to try broccoli and many other stuff you have teached here.

  14. I loosely follow the grow zone, 8a, but since I’m in a cool microclimate, I adjust it. I’m in Washington state, on a river fed by snow from the mountains.

  15. I would love for you to make a series of Dragon Fruit, from cutting to harvest. I watched your video on how to grow Dragon Fruit from cuttings. I do enjoy your videos. I have learned a lot from you.

  16. Hello Jag how will I get my daughter a chance to visit your farm and experience a farm life with animal farms and tour on the fruit trees that your farm has

  17. I live on the Canary Islands, the temperature in winter does not go under 14 Celsius. And that’s during the night. During the day, it can easily go up to 30 C in the sun. We have shade nets that filter part of the sun though I tend to take them down in winter, depending on what I plant underneath. Vegetables that like cool weather are out, they do not well. Green beans are grown in winter, although here again, the yellow and especially the purple ones are doing great, lattuce, brocoli and purple coliflower. I tried different types and the purple ones like this climate best. Sawing in november since the coolest month is februari. In spring, summer and part of fall, we go for tomatoes, all kinds of peppers, tumeric, ginger, rucola instead of lettuce, zucchini, eggplants, okra, Indian climbing spinach all year long but in the shade, melons, watermelon, … fruits: passion fruit, mango, banana, strawberries, kiwi… things like that. Originally from Belgium, it was a learning curve.

  18. Thank you for your dedication in helping us all be more self sufficient! The spinach planting tip was awesome! Tomorrow morning I will plant some spinach!
