This week I planted out a whole heap of summer vegetables that I bought from Quickcrop and this is something I’ve done before, when time and space is tight for sowing seeds. Having pre-grown vegetable seedlings like the ones I got delivered are so handy!

I’m also chatting about what’s been happening behind the scenes in terms of my house and how it’s affected my plans for the garden this year!

Have a wonderful week in the garden and I hope your garden is blooming!

Music from Epidemic Sound

oh hello welcome back to lovely gardy bits so yes I’m back with the microphone cuz a lot of you said that you liked the chats like as I was doing stuff that I be like chat away so I’m going to do that again today and hopefully we won’t have dogs barking cuz I thought that that would help kind of hide that but it didn’t and lots of you were saying that when the dogs are barking left voiceovers or kind of like music is better so keeping all that in mind but I am going to try and sorry am I in this on there I I’m going to try and use a different editing um software to see if I can get rid of the dog Sands if need be I might try it on like the old clips which we’ll see anyway but and the reason why cuz I tried it with um able to get rid of the seag gold sounds as [Music] well yeah cuz I tried it recently I was filming out and in Ho which is like little fishing Village close to where I am we’re filming outside and the wind was like a big factor I didn’t know we were going to be filming down there at the matter but yes that’s why I wasn’t um I didn’t have a video last week because it’s just been like mad so last week I yeah lots of editing to do for that job and then what did I have last week two things oh yeah so on Wednesday last week I went over to London with um Cloud 10 Beauty it’s like a retailer here um to celebrate Stila Stila makeup’s 30th birthday and I was like oh we have the same birthday we don’t a little bit older that was D and back to to like London and back in a day which was like a full-on day but like was so much fun and then Friday I had a talk in one of our shopping centers here so in liy Valley um with the podcast girls so I did a podcast couple of months ago at this point skin in the game I leave that H linked below where I kind of chatted about my story and how I became like a content creator and and the day that we were filming or recording we didn’t really have time to talk about beauty so uh the girls asked me if I wanted to be like their guest in their live event and I was like oh yeah should give it a go and and it was so much fun so that was like kind of Friday kind of prepping for that so just with work and everything any listen famous ERS I I’m happy to be busy but also would be equally happy to be able to film Garden content every day but anyway today I only have about probably an hour and a half Max because of an appointment um that I need to get ready for so I’ll probably like have a shower if I get like real sweaty and dirty but on Sunday mom and I had a day in the garden and it was like one of those days where it was like just real ugly jobs I was like there’s no point filming it so I needed to take down the archway that had fallen over and broken and had gotten all rusty so we did that put up the new one and um I decided to cement it into place I’ll show you that now in a second so I’m going to now tie up the Roses to attach it to it I’m going to show you what I’m going to be doing actually should be chatting away and then um what else mom wanted to kind of lay stuff like kind kind of like a Sandy grout on the patio here to stop weeds but I don’t think it’s worked and I know I said it in like the most recent video about having the chats about the garden and kind of reasons why I have or haven’t been doing stuff so hopefully this year we’re going to be getting work done on the house um downstairs so I think the garden is going to be destroyed so we have the Builder coming over um in a couple of days just to kind of go through the final plans and ideas and I suppose like the time frame and everything because the time frame has been changed a couple of times so at the start of the air kind of knew this is going to be happening and so in the back of my mind I’d said to myself I don’t want to be spending loads of money on plants that either I’ll have to dig up or will get destroyed or I won’t have room for so that’s why I’ve kind of like pulled back like a bit I’m buying the plants even though my heart and myself wants to buy them oh my God now I did buy a few over here but I’m hoping that when we have the Builder here what is that noise oh can you see a bird in the bird bath there I was like what is that noise that’s like a little plant tray that we have like a rock in and we put water and like even though there’s a bird B there and Below they all go to that one so it just shows you don’t have to spend money on like a big kind of lovely concrete one Ian oh yeah so I was thinking in the back of my mind I was thinking um well if the Builder’s going to be here I’m going to price how much it would be to like lay the concrete foundation for the greenhouse now I don’t think I’ll be able to afford the greenhouse this year but maybe next year like at least if it was there is there another bird there oh he’s like fully ly down in it I need to add more water to it and yeah so I was like maybe if I put like you get him to like lay the foundation while he’s here while he has all the equipment and everything so yeah I’m going to price that now this week and I’m also going to find out from him properly how much of the garden will be destroyed because I was watching Nile Gardens or Nile’s Garden Nile Gardens um a couple weeks ago and his garden has been completely decimated because he’s getting an extension and I knew the garden would be to an extent but like watching his video made me nervous so that’s why I want to ask the the Builder this week this t-shirt has seen better days and I’m just going to use this for my garden t-shirt because you’ll see when I go to do the the Roses attach them again um it’s very torny and like my arm was so scraped all here and all here the other day so I was like I’ll just wear something old I don’t mind this getting um destroyed okay we’ll be get cracken on this work yes I’ll give you more water in a second okay this is the current situation we installed the brand new Arch this was only cheap from um Amazon ideally I would have loved a more kind of like a stronger one but I was like listen this will do for the year because if I do get the greenhouse which will I’m thinking will go where those veg beds are now obviously it would take up more space um I’d love to have something a little bit stronger little bit like that’s not going to rust as quickly just what I’m going to do is attach those Roses um here oh I have the Rope is there great and then have these roses here that I’m going to attach up and then I decided to take the weight off of this Arch I’m going to attach oh it’s so noisy here I’m going to attach that Rose to that Arch so we’ll just we’ll do that and now this little apple tree I don’t think it’s living it’s Destiny there’s no apples on it maybe the pot is too small I don’t know I did move things around a little bit in this border actually let me show you this really quickly so usually the past couple years like this has been the Cottage Garden area in pots and I am going to be planting those up properly that’ll probably be next week’s video but I just put everything there but I feel like some of that color needs to go into the Border sorry I just saw that oh my little grass is starting to bloom or whatever you want to call it um yeah so this is looking like a little bit green it’s Grand I did plant out a few bits but I moved things around down here so I have this geranium it’s kind of make like a little feature of the um the bird bath and I moved this blossom tree now this needs to go into a bigger pot I’m not ready for it to go into the ground yet because um this won’t be like its final resting place final resting place I’m talking like it’s going to be dead um but I really like this little thing like the snapdragons they’ve um come back again but isn’t that like a really nice little oh that’s a beautiful little Vista I’ll take a photo of that in a second just briefly like whenever we do get fingers crossed the house done it’s going to be like an extension that comes out about there and it will go won’t come fully out to the wall it’ll go down a little bit there so it will take off like this not much of the garden but um I probably will have to like dig those bits up um like this border it’ll do for this year it’ll be fine okay we’re going to go wide angle so that I can show you what I’m doing so what I’m thinking is first of all hold on oh Jesus I cemented this the archway into the ground so we’ll see I mean I can feel that the arch is very flimsy oh my God this so hard to do with gloves on okay hold on so wish me luck now I’m going to try not scrub myself because I was going to wear gloves but it’s just not happening okay yeah I can never remember if this one is a rambler or a climber I look it up sugar I look at up properly once a month and I remember for like about 5 minutes and then I I just don’t know how to keep it in my head cuz like this Rose it just blooms once but like lots of tiny little ones and In fairness it does grow a lot I was just using the wheel to kind of prop this up oh God oh my God oh God okay okay it’s okay it’s okay oh my God ow my neck oo oh my hair oh my God wait wait wait wait wait okay I could just get a ladder but listen I think I want to get this done today because because it’s supposed to be windy tomorrow so I’m hoping that the wind um or that the arch we can withstand the wind if you’re watching do you have like a metal Arch like this or um a wooden one so I’m trying to think kind of like longterm like I know things don’t last for forever but maybe like a wooden one will be better in the long term for me so at the moment the whole family is away on holiday like separately and they’re going to be back soon so I would just love to have this looking nice for the first family Barbecue going to tie this poor little Rose in at least this is still blooming really nicely but oh yeah that’s s so I live beside a park and every July it’s I’m sure it’s Tuesday the 3D weekend in July and they have this is actually grown quite tall they have the Rose Festival and um it’s a really nice kind of community thing to do and there are rose gardens in the park and I haven’t been to it now just like usually when I go for my walk I forget to go that way so I can’t tie this with gloves trying to be gentle with this I’m trying little rose bush oh these blooms are gorgeous they probably making an absolute mess of this um somebody asked me what Rose this is and I haven’t a clue when did I buy it I think I only bought it last year I can’t remember if Katherine bought the same it’s nice and fragrant as well is it oh not really actually Oh I thought it was that other one there the dark pink one that is so fragrant and I remember when I was a kid we used to make our own perfume with rose petals and we used to put them in water and um let it sit I loved that actually I almost get my nephew to do that when he’s over the next time so I think I was saying in last week’s video that when he was here a few weeks ago we sewed some sunflower seeds so I sent him a video on his holidays showing what they’re like now and he was like oh my God there’s so many of them so he’s going to love the fact that they’ve grown so much and he’s going to be so happy to like tell everybody that he sewed those seeds so I’m going to probably dead head I think tomorrow is supposed to be windy no point Dead Heading them now I dead head them maybe Friday and get rid of like the old blooms that it keeps flaring but I love this one because it has me get like a nice one see like here it has like Bunches of blooms on the end so it’s not just like here hold on that’s pretty look at the little small little boards and like down there as well and I love the fact that it changes color as well like the new blooms are really like dark pink and then as they get older they’re like a pale pink whereas with this one there’s a lot of deadheading to do and I will get Edward Scissor Hands herself to do that cuz she loves that now by doing that I run the risk of losing every single bloom a little pollen sacks okay next on the agenda is to tackle this so I bought did I need new plants no did I buy some yeah I did actually bought some veg plugs from Quick crop they’ve been sitting in here for ages what else is new so just going to let them get like a little bit of air I can’t remember what I bought I ordered kale Tuscana oh is that the cavaler I don’t know I ordered curly kale I ordered iceberg lettuce green shaft piece and sugar snap peas and then oh spring onions I forgot about that I’ve never grown spring onions before so going to keep all that going to leave them sitting out they’re still plenty like damp like the base so they are packaged really really well it’s a happy day so I’m hoping that they will enjoy a little bit of sun I hope I don’t kill them from putting them in the sun I am probably what is that oh Iceberg why did I buy Iceberg I don’t really like Iceberg I’m going to clear this corner veg bed and then if I have time I’ll do that one as well um like I will leave the corn in there I do have little kind of baby peas here that have been eaten by slugs gra so I think like whatever I am dig up kind like I’m going to miss them Wonder Could I keep them for like inside they be nice for like a little dri display that might be cool okay I’m also trying to oh oh this is very enjoyable I’ve never grown aliums like this before but I think I’ve seen to you before that like this veg bed or this bed hasn’t really done what I wanted it to do in terms of like the bulb lasagna thing because I had like crocuses and tulips and everything and because everything came up at the different times there just wasn’t that big like dramatic display all going well this won’t even be here and I’ll have a green house here instead oh they’re going to look so cool oh I actually love that I’m going to put all this into my composter outside oh yeah so I have to hop in composter there like juice kind of coming out of the bottom of it so I need to kind of take that off and use it as like a fertilizer as like a feed a liquid feed but I know lots of you have said that like this year’s growing conditions have been all over the place and I feel like we’re all kind of in the same boat really and a lot of people have said to me that um me showing kind of like my quote unquote real Garden makes them feel better because like this is real life you know you’re trying to make everything fit in your life and you know we don’t always have time to come out for like days at a time I’m going to try really hard with this not to plant them too close together we’ll see right I’m going to go get my compost okay what you isn’t this very satisfying when you see like a fresh bed it means that like whatever I’m about to plant here will have lots of nutrients and I think that’s what I needed to do for the larger bed cuz I think I just put farmyard on there but I think it needed normal compost so I will probably get some more of this tomorrow as I said I’ve never grown spring onion before but how cute are they grow these on the side I promise I’m going to try not to over plant here yeah I grew Leakes before and obviously left them in the thing for too long and they went really hard and Woody so I’m going to try really hard to just harvest the stuff but also do you know what the way you guys are saying that watching my videos makes you feel like it’s not just you who is leaving stuff and like in pots and that your comments then make me feel normal cuz sometimes I’m like oh my God here am I making videos now I’m not teaching you how to garden I’m just showing you what I do and like my little learning curve but when you like leave comments and stuff saying oh my god I’ve done that too that makes me happy how I feel I’m not alone so I actually love this community for that kind of like encouragement so thank you for leaving comments I’m excited to her with spring onions I do the iceberg lettuce along here cuz I’m going to put some into that FEG bed as well okay let’s do the iceberg lettuce cuz I feel like iceberg lettuce has not much nutritional value I don’t know why I bought it but maybe I can use them as like wraps cuz that would be great what veg are you growing at the moment and how is it doing so I do have like one tomato plant inside in the greenhouse I’ll show you in a second that um has given Tomatoes already but it’s not going to grow any bigger than what it was I don’t know it’s been a weird year for tomatoes and stuff what about if I did 1 two three there of sugar snap cuz then mat you can get it in there around the back s you’re like literally listening to me and my thought process and then it means that if I put these here I can put like bamboo there to make them grow up them put a row of sugar snaps just makes me so happy planting stuff out and if the Slugs go near them I come out cuz I feel like the start of the year was so slow going and now this this part has flown by now when these grow a little bit more I’ll put like the bamboo supports I have them there already I’m not going to buy anything new in terms of the garden because that’s the thing you see I just I think it’s been hanging over me knowing that we’re hoping that we’re going to be able to get the work done in the garden and I was like oh I spend money on like different structures new veg beds or whatever um or plants that are going to have to be moved so I have been trying to keep the cost down now I did buy loads of seeds that’s just my hobby and it means that I’m going to try and say this with with that laughing it means that like next spring I don’t need to buy any um seeds to curly kale and to Naro to Toscana cuz I’m thinking like the peas and stuff are going to grow up not out the same with these so hopefully these will have room to fulfill their Destiny and and I think I did this oh God a couple of years ago where I was harvesting curly kale and a dish here I don’t know if it’s like an Irish dish or a duin dish is that you get your curly kale and you boil it we boil a lot of things here in Ireland and then you get your what do you get potatoes Mash your potatoes add the curly kale when it’s cooked doesn’t take that long to cook you chop it up add it in with your potatoes and then add in like about a half of a raw oh no sorry a raw that’s too close hold on I can’t multitask yeah you add um half of a raw onion into your um dish into your potatoes and your crylic kale and you have that with corn beef and it’s so nice as I said I don’t know if it’s an Irish thing or doubling thing I’m going to water these in now actually as well but I wanted to show you something first of all I forgot I have to tie that in I’ll do do that in a second but when I was walking up here look what I saw hold on look at that little sweet pee that is beautiful I think this is yeah no this is one of the ones that Catherine gave me so she gave me some plants and I’ve kind of tried to grow them up this obis so you can see some blooms there there’s some there as well but like ideally would that be great now if that would grow over the arch I know probably won’t grow much the rest of this year um but it’ be gr so here are my tomatoes someday I will have my own Greenhouse to in but yes to see this one something happened with this I don’t did a break or whatever but it’s not actually growing any further so we’ll be harvesting those tomatoes and I love them when they’re warm and oh that’s ready I like a little bit of salt beautiful so up here I have some of the marag golds and you can see some of the tomatoes are starting to fruit so I leave this open all the time and see some of the flowers there so hopefully they’ll do their job and then little peppers are doing well as well so see here this is the what is it called the barbecue that um I put up there recently it’s very ugly the cover like it does the job I keeping it like dry and everything but I want to put something in front of it to take away from it because when you look at the window it’s all you can see but I want something that’s kind of like movable maybe we’ll just like do taller pots or something I wanted to show you this look look isn’t she gorgeous so she seems happy there so that makes me happy so we’ve gotten a good few strawberries from that plant there I’d actually like to repot those like put them in fresh soil for next year look it’s a little teeny tiny sunflower that’s the Slugs didn’t get but I do have more growing inside so Mom went through some of these pots there over the weekend and kind of got rid of the weeds and left some of the plants so see like the fox gloves I’m going to plant those out and I did have a Salvia Amad in here it’s not there anymore we know why snip snip look we’ve got more strawberries here so we try to harvest them when we see them I get that one just that the birds can have some but we can have some too yes hegy pagy Garden but I’m loving it okay it’s a couple of days later the hair is still as frizzy but it’s really windy out and it’s cold which is why I’m going to be wearing this it’s chilly here Lads I can’t even remember what or how I ended the footage the other day but I ended up going to get more compost because I really want to get the veg beds done I want to get the rest of the veg plugs and planted out I want I have another couple of bits that are kind of here on the window sill in the kitchen that have been grow I’ve just been trying to grow stuff so that the Slugs don’t eat them they’re like what are they called them things like little mini squashes so one of them is like little yellow kind of flat squashes and the other one is like an like an autum I don’t know an Autumn squash small one anyway so yeah we’re going to plant those out but I wanted to show you actually the other day when do you remember I think I did film when I was keeping all of my this me holding them my actual hair looks like these right now let me just show you look aren’t these so gorgeous they’re seed heads from the aliums so M put them into hold on I just pull that out the way um a vas that I have and I think they’re Gorge and we lots more so we put them here as well just um on the hall table I just think they’re so cool going to be planting a couple of the little bits there but um I was listening to a Sarah Raven podcast and she was talking about aliums for Christmas and what she’s going to do this this week this year is she’s saving all her alien um heads which I really want to try and do myself a couple of kind of big ones but she’s going to get natural food coloring I can’t remember how she said she was going to do that I’ll have to listen to it again and dye them rather than I think she said in the past she spray painted them kind of like a metallic but she doesn’t want to do that this year because she said it’s not that sustainable and I kind of feel the same way so um I might try and do that but I really like the natural Vibe of it but I know right I got a mic up because it’s quite Breezy so hopefully you’ll be able to hear me and uh let’s grow let’s plant let’s have the chats look at the size of this alium head that’s huge but I don’t know if I want to take it up just yet see the way it’s like purple on the edges but looks kind of cool that one’s not ready to go yet but I think I might take up those ones that one I’m going to clear out this bed I was just looking so these are little peas that I planted oh sorry these are little peas that I planted a couple of weeks ago they’re pint sized they’re supposed to be like for pots and the Slugs sure listen so I think I’m going to take those up and it’ll just give me space to plant out the rest so everything got a good rain on yesterday we had like a good few showers and it doesn’t look too bad now the spring onions don’t look great on the edge I’ll give it another water today when I finish um doing the beds I think and then I think probably Sunday or probably next week I’m going to tidy up all around here kind of give everything a good STM a good wash not wash uh coat and everything but I’m going to leave the fox gloves and stuff in here all right let’s get rid of that one oh look the bulb is still attached sorry little peo you didn’t fulfill your destiny yeah whatever kind of flowers have SED I’m just going to like leave here because they’ll be good for the pollinators I think I’m going to bring that in I’d say it’s going to be attached yeah it’s going to be attached to the bulb cuz with the other ones that were really dry yesterday they weren’t attached I just think that’s so cool cuz like all going well if this be oh that’s so cool if the this does become like the greenhouse area all this will have to come up anyway and I don’t mind spending money on kind of like new bulbs next year because I feel like one of my learnings from this year was that and I think I spoke about it with the other bed over there is that when it comes to the bulbs like this didn’t give me as much of like a an impact as I wanted because I didn’t put enough in here and then I feel like that they dried out quite quickly because they’re in a raised bed yeah maybe because these veg beds are kind of like more shallow cuz the ones over at the border across the way they seem to like last a little bit longer oh just I’m starting to kind of now that well hopefully that if the extension and the work done on the house of that’s going ahead it means then that whatever you do in the garden can be more permanent because this has been something that we’ve been talking about for a while now so hopefully it’ll happen got more Iceberg we will be the vision of Health and Wellness with these so I’m putting those in like a little triangle so that I can put a as they grow fingers crossed I can put like a little tripod of um the bamboos around them and I’ll do the same here we’re going to do curly kale no I’ll put three here maybe I’ll put two in the other bed cuz yeah I’ll have room here and I’m not going to let them get like really big you remind me not to let let them get too big but we need to do a bit of weeding over in this bed oh I feel rain this is an oscillating hoe that I bought a couple of years ago or maybe last year this like it’s mad like the amount of weeds that have come up my poor little beas there didn’t survive that one kind of has that one’s just been stripped this is really handy for beds like this and then for like the the flower bed over there as well cuz I really want to try FES last word and kind of keep things up to date cuz I think there’s so many weeds here because this has access to the bit of sun that we have okay I’ve got a couple of curly kale and Nero de Toscana right I’m going to stick some of these in here we’ll see what happens isn’t that all part of the fun experimenting I’ll be putting more compost around that so it’ll kind of put them in a little bit deeper put that one put this one and there two of these you know the fact that I have now all these planted is such a we off my mind I’m happy now two didn’t make it but that’s okay I feel like we got a good selection out there didn’t we so I’m just going to lay the compost on the top and then I’m going to kind of dig it in just so it’s not just sitting on the top layer oh I love my hands in the compost tell me when you are in the garden are you a gloves user or to you go go Rogue and just use your hands I’m going to leave these in just in case little side shoes come out let actually see as well when to dig up my potatoes now mine didn’t flour Wills did and they didn’t flower last year either but we still got a decent kind of harvest we add some in here I’m going to water everything in I’m not going to film that cuz that will be boring but I will be back in a second I did add compost to that the other day didn’t I I can’t remember any I’ll give that a water or too okay this is next on on the list of things to tackle so what I’m going to do is take everything up out of here feel like it’s a lot of weeds and you know what I’m going to put all of these into I think I said this the other day into the composter outside now I’m going to get rid of these ones oh yeah I’m going to fill this up as well I never actually um replenish the compost in this at all this year so and like you can see the trailing theum s they self seeded from last year so happy days there and they’re going to be great I’m leaving those there they’re great for the pollinators the bees love them and we want those to be able to pollinate the veg whatever veg that we need to be pollinated now the corn is self-pollinating so we don’t have to put that or you don’t have to um worry about the bees pollinating that cuz they pollinate themselves that’s why you you sew them in a grid I think I said that one I was doing it definitely going to buy these aliums next year well we’ll see yeah it all depends on the finances because listen we got a quote from the Builder about about what work we wanted to get done it was like I think it’s just going to get more expensive the longer we leave it so cuz the cost of materials and everything just keeps going up I don’t know if I’ll document getting it done because because this is my mom’s house as well it’s not just mine I won’t say never but I just have to respect her privacy too you know what I’d like with these is they’ll go over the side and like last year when they grew over the side oh my God had to prune them and cut them back so much they went wild literally see we’re trying to get things in place for whenever the work is done you know cuz like we’ll be without a kitchen for a while and hopefully not too long o but I just keep saying myself it’ll be worth it going to have somewhere else for like everybody to sit and visit I’ll have more room to be able to film like another location because I mainly just film in my office this is where we’re going to be planting show you in a sec I’m just going to empty a load of compost in there where is my scissors did I plant my scissors oh no there it is okay where me look the idea in planting this wash here is I would love them to be able to grow oh God to be able to grow that side of the arch so I’ll have roses on one side a couple of the squ is on the other then the stms will go over the side it’s going to be fabulous they’re so vibrant and you can eat the leaves and I think you can eat the flowers as well the leaves are quite peppery I remember last year getting Matthew to try some when he was over and um he’s so cute he was able to say o that’s very peppery so we have two yellow corsett and one no yeah no yeah two yellow ones a one winter squash so oh my god oh sorry little plants you can see here this um is going rusty so I say this is this is probably the last year I’ll get out of this but it’ll do the job oh I’m excited for these let’s give it a water I might plant out these few little zenas that are literally on their last legs I don’t know what that noise is but I think that’s my sign that we’re finished out here okay I’m just going to do a little sweepy sweepy for myself so that I can see what these beds are like in a [Applause] month I have I have Good Vibes by this yay [Applause] just think of all the lovely food we’re going to get from here my God can see how dark the clouds are when I tap on them there that’s better and anyway okay so we’re going to finish up for now because of that and I will see you in next week’s video thanks so many for watching I feel really goodold after getting that done I don’t know why I leave things in my pots for so long and then I get really overwhelmed and that could just be alleviated if we just planted this stuff out it’s fine it’s fine but um I’ll see you in the next video I’ll see you soon goodbye dirty hands I love it

  1. Karen you are like the Maeve Binchy of gardening. I am not in Ireland at the moment and when I watch your videos it reminds me of home. Your authenticity is what makes you different to others. I have started looking after our garden after my husband died in Jan who was the caretaker. It is so therapeutic being outside. Love you chatting thanks for sharing x

  2. You were missed last week, we love visiting with you! Every time you mention Edward Scissor Hands, I have to chuckle. Love the reference. I try to use gloves, but most of the time don’t, because I can’t feel what I’m doing. Your addition to your house is a big undertaking but will be worth it. I think it’s a great idea to see if you can get the foundation poured for a future greenhouse at the same time as the extension. Hope all goes well for you.

  3. I think you're wise to delay planting until your construction is complete. It could be a chance to put pen to paper and plan how you'd like your garden to look with the new home extension. I hope you do eventually get your lovely greenhouse. I've wanted one for years too.

  4. I bought two archs a few months ago from aldi think €40 each, they are gorgeous, not flimsy, but not extra extra strong. I did put a good multi-purpose waterproof black ( so you don't see it ) paint on the joints and nuts. Just have to see how long they last.
What veg am I growing 😮.
Lettuce also iceberg and others beetroot, corn, white brown and red onions green beans two types garlic and carrots I have seen on a lot of alotment utube channels not to grow carrots in trys they don't transplant but mine have my first year growing carrots I even thined them out and planted them elsewhere so far they have rooted in again. Tomatoes which are doing fantastic even got a crop from them strawberries red current black current blueberries and peppers , I've a small garden lot smaller than yours, a big shed takes up about a qurter no grass so I've raised beds and pots. Lots of pots of flowers hanging baskets and wall planters. Front garden yes have grass growing flowers nothing flowering yet fecking weather 😢 in my sons garden new plot I've corn Lettuce broccoli beans in two beds . On his little patio I've pots of flowers strawberries and tomatoes and put a few window boxes. His garden is a small patio courtyard area go up steps and a long green garden that was very very overgrown his neighbours were delighted when I started to cut back all the overgrown brambles growing between the gardens. It's going to take time to get the growing set up I'm hoping by next year I'll be set.

  5. Karen I have you and Catherine to blame for my gardening addiction! Oh my word…I have now got 20 40 x 40 raised beds, 2 veg beds…tomatoes, rutabaga, lettuce carrots, radishes, green beans…the list goes on! I have 14 roses and various and sundry other beautiful plantings. I'm having so much fun and take my husband for tours of the garden if something changes or blooms. I have an abundance of bees and can hear them happily buzzing while out deadheading the plants. My sweet peas are doing well…they were one of my grandmother's favorite flowers. I look forward to continuing the addiction the pair of you started!! BTW I read this week that putting coffee grounds your plants could keep slugs away because they don't like the smell or texture of the grounds! Heat up that coffee pot! Thank you for the work you put into your videos…I look forward to Sunday mornings!

  6. I love the way you chatter. It's like we are there with you just talking freely in the garden.

As for the gloves question. I go rogue most of the time. I do try to use them. However, I love the feel of the dirt on my hands.
That said……. I got some fresh farm garden feed 😂 I shall be using thick garden gloves for that 😉 😅😅😅

Good to know, just like you, garden things are a little off this year. 😊

  7. Really enjoyed your chat today. It was good seeing you work in your garden, you are like so many of us. I do wear gloves in the garden, I shudder at accidentally touching a bug! :O) Thanks for sharing. Laurie

  8. Hi Karen! Thanks for the video! I have been having terrible luck with slugs and snails this year eating my veggies as well. I've found that throwing crushed egg shells around will deter them as the shells are very uncomfortable for them to go over. Hope this helps! xx

  9. Love your chats and project updates. The weather here in Portland Oregon, USA has been a mixture of hot, humid, cloudy and sunny. Enjoying our flower garden, lots of bed cleaning out and spreading mulch. Sure makes a difference, thanks for the inspiration!

  10. I am in the no gloves category. I have garden gloves but rarely use. Mainly use in fall when cleaning away the old plants after a frost. I like to feel working with the plant and soil. Always enjoy your videos. I don't mind the dogs as we have neighboring dogs that bark when we work in the garden.

  11. The seagulls aren't a bother nor is the wind. Nature is delightful and the bird bathing is a joy! Thank you so much for your chats and encouragement!

  12. I like your real garden. In my garden this season I've had the best strawberry harvest in years, my corn seedlings kept getting eaten (only 5 left and they're quite short), something ate my Sugar Baby watermelon seedlings, only 1 bean came up, carrots doing great, tomatoes thriving and my garlic bed looks a bit questionable. 😅 my potted dahlias, one came up, potted tulips 4 came up, Dutch iris nothing but green leaves. Zinnias? WTF, they're small and not the usual tall colorful beasts I've grown for years.

  13. I think we're all feeling the same, everything is so behind and slow growing even when you do put it in! I've lost so many plants this year through the cold wind, rain and hardly any sunshine. Ah well…..us gardeners have to keep moving on lol. Thankyou for showing us your garden !

  14. I leave stuff in pots. Way too long also. I think life just gets hectic and busy. Planting it out is a big job so they sit until I get them all done. I’m glad it’s not just me!🌸🌸🌸

  15. Thanks, as always for this vlog. I live in a village in Somerset here in the UK, it has to be one ofthe noisiest places on earth! Where you live reminds me so much of here, always a generator, a drill, a dog, someone using a hammer or pressure washer! So I can understand your annoyance with it all x Well done for getting those bits planted, a weight off your mind, I know that feeling.

  16. I absolutely loved this style of video! The chats as you worked was lovely, and especially the realness of the tidying up jobs, and figuring things out. I really enjoyed it! Thanks 😊

  17. Re greenhouse – need to decide what style of greenhouse you want as may affect the base. My greenhouse is anchored and set into a concrete rim under the walls and door rather than a slab throughout, I much prefer this as it allows any water that spills inside to quickly drain away. There is no right or wrong with this, just something to have in mind. Best of luck with the house works 😊
