Unlock the power of organic soil biology! Great soil health tips from Dan! His knowledge of soil biology, nutrients and amendments will help you understand how to have the best organic garden soil preparation possible! Make the your soil the best it can be by focusing on feeding the soil microbial biology, instead of feeding your plants. The reason this works best is because the soil microbes themselves are what actually feeds your plant’s root system through mycorrhizal symbiosis!

and it’s super prolific it’s just loaded with peppers it saves you a bunch of money this year I’m going to do something a little different oh yeah yeah peppers grow up way tall and then the wind blows them all over onto the ground you got get Peppers all went along hey welcome back to our Channel this time we’re going to go over what our favorite pepper varieties are and I’m going to ask Dad what his favorite kinds are uh what he why he likes them what kind of soil conditions are ideal planting and harvesting them so let’s get right to it right what kind do you like our my favorite is The Lunchbox orange the orange lunchbox variety and why do you like it uh the flavor is I like sweet peppers uh so that’s the favorite sweet pepper the lunch box one um and uh this just a really sweet pepper um trying to find the seed here here it is so is it a bell pepper what no it’s like a little short kind of Italian shape just a small pepper bright orange thick walls very juicy very sweet and ni thing about The Lunchbox it’s not an F1 hybrid so you can save the seed and so there you go there’s a bunch of bunch of box pepper seed so it saves you a bunch of money you don’t have to be buying their hybrids all the time so that’s a very good sweet nice little size sticky lunch box and uh it’s they have a red and they have yellow as well but the neither one are as sweet as the orange so if you like sweet like I do go with the orange all right what’s another variety the next variety that I really like is called Carmen c a r m n and that happens to be a hybrid and so we can’t save the seed from that you like I don’t have a seed packet for that right now it’s coming in the mail what do you like about Carmen uh same thing it’s very sweet M uh it’s a little bigger it’s probably about 6 in Long 8 in long and nice taper slender thick walls color nice red dark red and very sweet very prolific um lot of yield yeah so that’s a good and then if you want something a little more drier uh for drying uh this Jimmy nardello Italian is another really good and it’s super prolific I it’s just loaded with peppers it’s got thin skin so you want to dry it and grind it um and that’s also open pollinated so you can save the seed yeah and not have to be buying seed from somebody right uh and then another one that we like is the super sheeper it’s an old variety but it’s still a good standby uh seems to always come through and so save and it’s it’s a open pollinated so we save the seed from that as well what kind of a fruit is it shap it’s another uh kind of longer Italian type I think uh it’s a little fatter a little bigger um very thick walls um color just another very delicious what color is red pepper it’s a red pepper okay um and they’re all good for freezing we just cut them up and put them in the freezer and you got get Peppers all went along so those are the main ones that I like to grow um the super Shephard and Theo and the uh Carmen in a lunch box and then uh there’s a few uh hot peppers just like the standard jalapeno mhm pepper that works good and we like to pickle those um really good pickle mix a little of the sweet peppers in there with them give them a little sweetness um so that’s that’s uh that’s why we like those and and tell us more about the soil conditions that are ideal for pepper plants uh well the peppers like them really hot they like the warm soil so don’t waste your time putting it in early they’ll just sit there full sun yeah they like full sun uh hotter the better um lighter heavy soil which is better this Sandy LOM is most ideal what about fertilizer not too much nitrogen because they’re fruit bearing and so you don’t want a bunch of huge plant with a bunch of leaves and no fruit so you want to hold back on the nitrogen like you do tomatoes and the other night shades um eggplants and so forth uh so you want to be concentrate more on the phosphorus and the potassium and especially the potassium to get the size of those Peppers up to where they’re nice size so potassium is for the for your fruit production and phosphorus is for the root root yeah so yeah just fertilize it keep those numbers in mind just not to get too carried away on the nitrogen can you tell us about how you like to plant them in space you know if and I plant them I like to plant them pretty close together uh we use drip tape on everything and and uh peppers are no exception and they’re drip taped and uh they’re space about oh 12 to 14 inches apart on both sides of each drip tape and uh then this year I’m going to do something a little different oh yeah yeah peppers grow up way tall and then the wind blows them all over onto the ground and U so this year I’m going to take a like nylon netting that’s got like 6 in squares in it and I’m going to make a little some supports and so put the netting oh maybe a foot and maybe two feet off the ground so the peppers will just come up and grow right through that netting and then they can’t be blown around side to side and that’ll also help with the sun scull cuz Sun Peppers will get sun scaled in our heat that we have have here so you’re going nylon netting versus like stock panel because of price or because it doesn’t get hot in the sun U or what both both okay yeah yeah it’s cheap and uh it’s easy to work with it’s not heavy like stock panel um and so yeah I think I think it’ll work really really good so we’ll have to keep you posted on that and see how it goes yeah that way you know it’s always a disaster you see the peppers they grow so good and they get so big and then they all fall over and then they’re just kind of a mess um I like to keep it neat and tidy so I think this will really really kill two birds with one stone so you said that uh to to plant them when it’s nice and hot so it’s nice and warm um what about harvesting uh you just wait until they turn red or orange or whatever they’re supposed to be at their mature State and uh pick them and how are you going to preserve them or use them in your meals they are damaged by Frost so you need to pick them off pick your garden down or pick your at least your peppers down whatever you’re growing there uh some fruit some things are not damaged as much by Frost but definitely peppers they take a hit yeah they get they easy so yeah and they they take a fair amount of water uh don’t skimp on the water because the root system is a pretty extensive root system so with drip system you have to make sure you get enough water on them otherwise they suffer you said the root is an extensive or it’s not yeah it’s pretty extensive it goes pretty far okay they have a good root system so if your ground is too too too uh uh aerated and too Lamy it can the water can just go right straight down more or less how they drip and not spread yeah so that’s why you have to be careful to not have too ly but then clay you know it spread and go out and and just stay water loged and you don’t you know you got to be careful not water it too much with Clay yeah so well I hope you like that video on Peppers we really enjoy peppers and I hope you do too I’m sure you will if you grow some of these varieties some our best ones that we we like Please Subscribe leave us a comment down in the section below we read them and we’ll reply to them if you have questions we’ll do our best to reply to him and Love the idea to use nylon netting fur support! Thank you for the awesome video!
I'm a new subscriber at your channel & learned a lot. Interested in purchasing some of your favorite peppers as well as tomatoes
Please define what makes something “the best”
Great video. I use hazelnut trimmings to stake my peppers with but it doesnt always work. I think I have some leftover nylon netting for flowers that I will try this year, especially for the Mad Hatter and Big Bertha peppers, they tend to sprawl all over the place. Have you ever tadted the Mad Hatters? They're just a tad bit hot.
Can you use seeds from grocery store for the lunchbox peppers?
Interesting! Your favorite tomatoes were orange varieties and your favorite pepper is orange. Me thinks you like orange 😁
Carmen is up and growing for my sweet peppers for freezing this year. So nice to have them waiting for me and not having to purchase from the store. I was a fan of Gurneys triple delight, but I talked myself out of the $10 seed packet this year.
I also like my peppers to be close together like you mentioned too.
Last season I put in anchored rebar type stakes and did an open Florida weave of sorts. Thanks to your advice, I think I’ll be putting my netting towards this use!
Wish I would have ordered the Jimmy Nardello peppers. I think it was Guajilio peppers we had last season that worked well for drying and grinding for powder.
Thanks again for sharing your faves and sound information!

Do you sell seeds?
My favorite ultra sweet peppers are Melrose, Corbaci and Habanada. I really like Lunchbox, Carmen and Jimmy Nardello. Thanks for your video!
I always grow some Carmen peppers. I probably like them more than Bell's. I grabbed a couple starter plants at a greenhouse center called Yummy they are probably similar to Lunchbox varieties. I really enjoy your channel. From the son picking dad's brain to the techniques and knowledge shared.
