🌿 Raised Beds & Lavender Success!🌿
Setting yourself up for success is key to growing beautiful lavender. I have lavender tucked all over Sweet Bombdiggity Farms, but I always find it happiest in a raised bed. So many folks came by our booth of lavender goodies at the Homestead Festival and said, “I can’t get lavender to grow,” and that got me thinking. Why does it love me? Maybe I’m just lucky, but I also think that I pay attention to these things…
Here are some of the reasons I think it helps:
3 Benefits & Tips for Planting Lavender in Raised Beds
1️⃣ Better Drainage: Lavender thrives in well-drained soil. Raised beds ensure excellent drainage, preventing root rot and promoting healthier growth. Tip: Add gravel or sand to your soil mix for extra drainage.
2️⃣ Soil Control : You have complete control over the soil composition. Tip: Use a mix of sandy soil and compost to create the perfect environment for your lavender.
3️⃣ Weed Control: Raised beds help reduce weed growth, making maintenance easier. Tip: Mulch around your lavender plants to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture (I used hay this year)
I hope that you will be enjoying the beauty and fragrance of thriving lavender! 💜
