Located in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture, Yoshiike Ryokan has a 9,760㎡ Japanese garden on its grounds. In this video, we will go to the back of the teahouse to see the Sanso Garden garden and its surroundings The garden by the tea house, Sangetsuen, is shared in the previous video At the lower left, you can see water flowing by the tea house. Enter the garden path to the right of Shinkoan, a tea house owned by the 16th Tokugawa Shogun. It is different from the moss garden path in Sangetsuen. This is a view of the tea house from the opposite side of the previous video. A large Oribe lantern can be seen on the other side of the corridor. It is said that the tea house was owned by the 16th Tokugawa Shogun, but in fact, the reign of the Tokugawa Shogun ended after 15 generations, so the tea house belonged to the person who was supposed to be the 16th Shogun. Currently, the interior is not open to the public. No matter how many times I visit, the excitement of entering this garden path never changes, and it is one of my favorite gardens in the Kanto area Even today, there are still places where an irrigation canal flows in front of a house in areas that retain the streetscape of old Japan. This garden path with a stream flowing beside a tea house reminds us of such a Japanese landscape of the past. The garden is always filled with the sound of running water, as the Sukumogawa River flows next to the Yoshike Ryokan property and water can be drawn from the river Cross the wooden bridge in the back and go right to the Sanso garden. Stepping stones continue behind the wooden bridge. We will cross here later. Looking back from the wooden bridge The gradual change of scenery from the natural stream to the tea house downstream is very well represented. You can see that the bamboo fence in the back is set up in the style of a "Shitasukashi-Kenninji". Let’s go into the Sanso garden. There are seven ponds on the grounds, including Sangetsuen, with about 1,000 koi swimming in them I think this is the area where you can see the most carp in this garden 70% of the rooms at Yoshike Ryokan have a garden view, and guests may enjoy the view of the garden from inside the room. However, few people actually go down to the garden to take a stroll. This may be due to the fact that it is a tourist spot and there are many places to see in the surrounding area, then there are almost no people in the garden anytime I visit. On the other hand, unlike in England, few people in Japan enjoy gardens, and the majority of Japanese are not interested in Japanese gardens at all. It is known that the Sangetsuen garden shared in the previous video was created by the brothers Ougi Seisai and Rodou, but it is not known whether they also created this part of the Sanso garden or not. Even so, this small, secret garden, which is located at the end of the parkway and rarely visited by visitors, has a very charming atmosphere Finally, let’s go to the back on the stepping stones leading from the side of the wooden bridge at the entrance. It is a space like a gap between a tea house and a garden that no one seems to pass through, but it is well built. If you like this video, please subscribe and give it a thumbs up👍. Thank you for watching!
